I'm interested to read that there are probably no more that 30 MoC copies of a Trilogo Madine.
Which makes him relatively common compared to some other holy grails, so as with Boba Fett it's mainly hype that drives up the price of Madine rather than actual rarity.
Edd's quite right, I don't want to give the impression that the figure is "common" at all but I would bet on the fact that before reading the article, most people would have guessed there were around half that number out there or even less so in that respect I think it's probably been an eye opener to see that many examples in the same place (and I'm sure there are more out there).
There was reportedly a find of 6 or 7 by Brianstoys years back (90's) but I was unable to find out more information. The word "find" gets used quite a bit of course and that may not mean they found a bunch together in an old warehouse somewhere. Back then, they were reportedly buying Madine's up from French collectors they were obviously ahead of the game on rarity) and offering around $1k for one (which was very appealing at the time) so it might just be the case that they *had* 6 or 7 in stock at one point in time from different sources.
It's important to remember that the total number of Madine's shown in the article is just based on information I've personally gathered from people I've been able to contact (who either owned one or could prove someone else did). There are literally loads of people out there that are completely off the radar who may have one but unless they put themselves out there nobody will ever know (trust me when I say that there is stuff out there that people haven't heard about or seen before which would knock people for six!)
I always remember when the RS community found out that the American singer/musician Rick Springfield had a carded headman in his collection:
At the time, it was only the second known example in the world! Even the most die hard bootleg collector (apart from perhaps Joe Y) would never have had any idea it even existed if Rick hadn't posted the picture and who knew he even collected before then? I sure didn't lol!
I'm very confident that 30-40 different Madine's are in collections which as Edd says, totally eclipses other "rarities" but even 50 of them probably wouldn't satisfy demand as there must be more than 50 people in the world hoping to complete a Trilogo collection.
As for other figures, Fett definitely isn't as hard to find as the Madine because he was released on 3 or 4 different cards. There's 2 different French variations, a Palitoy and a German Parker card too and almost all Trilogo collectors seem to own one (from what I've seen) - same with the Jawa!
