Friday 4th Sept

Really mixed stock in Liverpool today.

ToysRUs had lots of figures, vehicles, diecast and a ton of new Lego. Managed to bag a Captain Phasma figure but it was the only one. I quite like the 2 packs - the packaging is sharper than the single figures, and the box design is much less cluttered. They're better value at £16 than the singles which at £10 are just a rip off I think.

The Entertainer in L1 had nothing, just some staff sitting round by a couple of empty shelves and some boxes that may have had new stuff in them.

Forbidden Planet had nothing, just empty shelves waiting for stock. All FP seems to sell these days is comics and funko heads which is pretty crap. Mail order is better obviously.

The Disney Store in L1 had quite a lot of costumes, some figures but none of the 3.75 inch type, BB8 Sphero (in the window, didn't see them in the shop itself), more varied than TRU. Quite a lot of interest but the shelves looked fully stocked.

Out of interest, has anyone seen the new books in shops anywhere? This seems to be the first, I thought it was out on the 4th but seems to be the 10th now.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/books/dp/1780893647

It basically replaces all of the EU canon with the new TFA canon. There's going to be three or four I think running up to the TFA plot. I'll be reading those I think.

Haha, looks like the elite series stormie is missing the black line across the helmet above the eyes, at least the one pictured on the disney store website, anyone pick one up to confirm this?
Variant hunters assemble! LOL

check the black series sdcc stormie and compare the pics....

I don't know how they can justify £10 for one new figure when the twin packs of rebels figures are right next to them for the same price??

Also the hangers are **** so as soon as you try and look at the figure behind the front one they all fall off!!!

My last moan.. No BB8s in stock

Is this from the TFA movie?
Or from some other line?

Shouldn't this be classed as a character reveal, I haven't heard mention of it, not even a picture until now...

Phasma is nowhere to be found in-store if you want the Elite Series one....managed to grab one from the Disney Store website just now....have the complete set of First Order now.....can't be bothered with the Rebel ones....don't look that good apart from BB-8 tbh.

I thought this was a vintage forum ? :P

Seriously though, I think those figures look a bit crap. That's got to be the worst modern packaging since the wierd square ones at the end of the legacy line. Not raving Mary :|

That's beginning to sound a bit like an RS thread :D

I agree though and to make it worse they're expensive crap too.

Took my boys to Toys-r-us last night. They've saved all their birthday money and waited very patiently for this! They were absolutely gutted as the only TFA figures left were Resistance Fighter and Constable Zuvio. They bought the Resistance guy (only one left). There was loads of stuff, but the 3.75" line had pretty much gone, with a load of empty pegs. They had no more stock and didn't know when they'd get more. The store assistant took pity on them though and gave them T-Shirts and Lego sets that they had left from the midnight opening.

Similar story at Smyths, but they managed to bag Poe (last one) and a Tie Pilot.

Same in Argos too! they brought all their remaining stock out for us- only had 8 figures left and most of these were Darth/Luke. However, they had Finn and Rey + they had some cool Kylo Ren posters they gave us.

Finally, Asda. Every peg empty :( Asked an assistant if there were any other displays in the store (it's massive!) and she said what they had would be in the main isle. On the way out, I spotted a Frozen display with some sale clothing, so looked the other side of it, and low and behold, a Star Wars display! It looked like it had just been put out. There was one Kylo, one Stormtrooper and two Flametrooper, so we bagged them.

So, just the elusive Phasma to get...

Pleased in the end, but it was a little stressful! Scalpers had obviously taken all the popular figures to flip on ebay, which really pees me off on many levels. The pricing is just plain wrong from Hasbro. They have also misjudged the popularity of the 3.75" line. There was plenty of diecast, Hero mashers, Lego, Large figures etc. No vehicles either. Not a single speeder bike, X-Wing, Tie Fighter...

As for the figures themselves... I like them, and more importantly, my boys love them. they LOVED the different gun/equipment pieces with each character that transform into a bigger item and were working out in the shop which figures needed to go with which to complete the weapon. The sculpts are very good, although I wasn't impressed with the paint job on Poe's visor. I like the packaging- the character pictures are superb. I would've preferred a more traditional (vintage) card construction though.

If you want the X-Wing, get over to Zavvi ASAP as they have it for £29.99 with free delivery. I think they've definitely mucked up somehow, as they have another one, which looks identical for £46.99 and all other stores seem to be selling it for £49.99.

Mate there were loads of Phasmas in the Disney Store yesterday, actually picked up a couple of extra Kylo and Phasma figures just because they were going to be the must have figures but put them down because I thought it would be nicer to leave them for the kids to buy then me have spare, if I'd thought I would have got them and shared them on here (I was half asleep sorry)
Glad your boys have got most of them though and that they love the figures and extras, have to keep reminding myself that they are aimed at kids - all the figures we bought yesterday are sitting on a chair and was trying to talk my daughter out of opening them but that's what they were bought for so today I'll get a sneaky play with them once they are out!

Cheers for the zavvi heads up - I have just placed an order :)

P.S.

I'm enjoying the modern amnesty in the vintage section, hard-core vintage collectors are showing a lot of tolerance :D

I just popped to my local TRU to take a look, they had a pretty decent display but most of the main characters and all the vehicles were sold out. They had plenty of Lego and some 3.75" Vaders and Lukes. The 12" Vader looks great too, and good value at £12.99 compared to the 3.75" one. Didn't buy anything, was just curious to take a look. I agree the £9.99 price point is way too high, don't see how they can justify it.

In all fairness he is right. It is a vintage forum and there is a section for modern :wink i just hope we can start to limit it a bit as there are loads of TFA threads popping up here. Nothing against anyone, but its just getting a bit repetitive.

Also, why do SW fans feel the need to panic buy everything in this day and age. They will all be pound shop items soon anyway, or on sale.

Now im off out to take my Eopie for a walk ;)

Same happened with me so many kept dropping of the pegs, glad the ones i wanted hadnt dropped.

I got a taxi straight from work to Smyths toys yesterday so i didnt miss anything and they had tons of itrms, i notice too on the side of the shipping boxes they had different assortment names like forest or snow so thats why forest version figures were not in the snow cases.....i only wanted phasma and kylo, some of the next wave figures i will get though

I found everything to be underwhelming and overpriced cheap plastic garbage....went and bought a sandwich. Not that I was in line at midnight..too old and no sex involved...was there in the morning. :)

Cheap plastic garbage is right. I just popped into Smyths to get my nephew a birthday present (wrestling figures) and quickly looked at the SW section. The figures look ****ing awful and £10 is a joke. I think Disney are doung the same as Lucasfilm-aiming at collectors instead of kids, which is why they were made -to be played with. And Ren,s lightsaber what a piece of ****.

Still, plenty of people willing to spend their money on this shite and as long as they do it will continue.

Same at Portsmouth TRU. Although in fairness I only wanted to see the Black Series 6" figures and the new Lego sets. Not much in the way of the junk 3.75" figures left and no 6" Black Series. Are they really £21.99 each? That's nuts. The Micro machine fold-out sets appear to have zero playability. The die casts look good and the packaging is pretty cool looking, too. How can it be right, though, that a painted metal toy is almost half the price of a similar sized plastic action figure? Overall, totally underwhelmed. Hoping my in-transit BB-8 will make up for the lacklustre show so far.

Yeah I agree with Lee, and I think this thread should be moved to the modern section. The vintage section should be for talking vintage toys or related, the modern section for talking modern toys and related and the off topic section for talking TFA and other non toy general SW chat. It's not hard is it

I don't have a problem with one or two threads in here, after all a new SW film and toy release isn't exactly an every day occurrence. Will move them later or if they get out of hand.
