Starting bid is $5549 and is from a US seller.

Here's the AFA report:-

Series: STAR WARS
Title: 12 BACK-A
Name: CHEWBACCA

Will this one get it's starting price or as an AFA 75 will it go for less than this?

Given palitoy prices these days I reckon it's anyone's guess!

Last one went for £5600:-

That was in nicer nick.

Starting price is approx £3600 after conversion on this one...

Add in the huge import tax as well !!

I wouldn't want Parcelfarce getting their hand on that one. I wonder if this one will stay state side?

:)

Actually not the first AFA graded example on eBay, an AFA triple 85 Y grade was listed in 2009 at a BIN £2000 make offer! Think it went for £1800.

In fact, the A card example I recently sold was sent off for grading to AFA by the new owner and it paid off as it graded triple 85 crystal clear bubble!
Rightly so as it is the finest example I have ever seen!! 8)

This may well show if that £5600 one was a one off or if that really is the price of a Palitoy chewie these days!!

Well I priced mine at 5.6K obviously based on that eBay sale, but mine was sold as part of a full set. But as I say when I was totting it all up Chewie was priced at 5.6K.

I certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone getting that price for a piece.

But I still think it's a prime example of price reflecting popularity rather than rarity.

Chewbacca is way more common than he was 5-10 years ago. This is at least the 3rd one to turn up for sale in the last 6ish months.

That said it wouldn't surprise me if this did hit a really high figure. There were several people bidding on that one last year and they all seemed willing to top £5k!

Glad I got mine when I did!

Am in total agreement with u Gaz, it's popularity is what has driven up the price but it's also regarded as a 'set completer' to many and there seems to be a fair few after completing a set today! To be fair it is rare compared to the others(excluding large head Han and not forgetting the VC Jawa). I also see it more or less on a par with Luke.
I too am amazed by this new level of price and at getting on for 4X what I paid for it had no choice really but to sell!

Well it went in the final second but only had 1 bid on it. Not sure if the grade put people off but if this was the one people were missing then I think it went for an ok price to the bidder.

Maybe it will turn up here on the latest acquisitions thread?

It went to a green star again, was it the same guy who bought the last one???

Yeh v impressive price considering the fair amount of card damage!

Considering there was a bidding war on the last one I would have thought there would have been one this time.

Perhaps that was a one off?

That's what I thought, it was a green.star who won Dr. Pitterson's, or whatever he was called

Wonder what happened to all those other bidders willing to go over 4k last time?

Maybe it was green.star's old chewie and they bid on it themself so that it wouldn't go too cheap? Maybe not, although it does seem strange that they would get another when the one from the end of last year was in better shape.

Maybe the lack of interest was to do with the quality of it although I'm not sure how many will come up again for sale in the near future so you would have thought that this was a good chance to complete your collection if that was the missing one.

Well one of those bidders now has my example and am guessing if the others are based over here they may have been put off by potential heavy customs charges and may not have been happy to have an item of that value to travel so far to get to them? As said this example wasn't anywhere near as good as the last, but yeh that 5.6K could be the all time record!!

I was seriously going to go all out to get this last night, hence the fact that I've been selling loads of items to raise extra money for it.
It got to about 12.30 and I was having another good luck at the pictures and for some reason I just decided not to bother.
The potential customs fees or the fact it would have to come here from the states didn't bother me, nor did the fact that it could have turned into a bidding war. The reason I never bothered was simply because the card was in pretty poor shape. If your gonna lay the best part of 4k on an item, you need to be 100% happy with it. I know for a fact that whilst it would have been a nice item to have, the card damage would have pissed me off every time I looked at it.
Maybe I'm being a bit dramatic but 4k to anybody is a lot of dough and if your gonna spend that much on an item, I think you need to be 100% sure about it or not bother at all.
Now I've slept on it I'm sure I made the right decision. Hell, even the wife couldn't believe I never even put a bid on it!
So it's back to the waiting game for a chewy but at least I can probably get the other 5 I need before another comes up for sale.

Yeh I fully understand your thinking on that, being condition sensitive and paying that kind of doh you wouldn't have been happy! You prob would have been happier paying 5 or 6K for a perfect example!!

Good luck in future on finding one.

I'm with Palitoyjunky on that. I think you really would have been unhappy with condition especially at that price.

Another will turn up. That's 3 shown up for sale in 6 months!!
