First 12 Palitoy MOC run completed

I took my Chewie to CE to get it graded. The AFA guys had never seen one before
Talking to a few guys at CE they reckoned one might come up for sale every two years or so on ebay and the only other chance is if you know someone selling their full set.

Real nice set there Mr Palitoy! If only I had'nt wasted my money on crappy Kenner 12 backs  I love the Palitoy sticker. Ive never seen those before!

:p That's an utterly fantastic set you have there Mr Palitoy and seeing the Palitoy logo sure brings back some happy childhood memories of seeing those figures in the shops.

Although I don't collect Palitoys myself, I do check eBay every few days out of interest and I haven't seen a Chewbacca on there in over five years (unless I've missed it). Including yours, I've seen three in the past year that have been sold/were for sale. One was over at IOP and a collector I know by the name of Darren Simpson (who you may also know) had one at Collectormania in Milton Keynes last year. That too had a crease down the card but his was creased down the centre. It still amazes me though just how rare Palitoy 12 backs are when you consider that they were produced in this country.

Good luck in your hunt for the remaining six of the 20 backs. That second series features characters that are among my favourites from the original toy line, particularly Greedo, and I have all eight on Kenner cards in my collection.

The shop window sticker is excellent and not one that I can remember seeing as a kid (I only remember the ESB 'Toys Stocked Here' one). I know that Jim Stevenson has a poster that Palitoy did for the first twelve figures but I've never seen one myself. The poster would've looked fantastic as part of the Palitoy Archive at CE!

James.

:?: Just out of interest, do you know who has the other two stickers? I know that Darren is a big Palitoy and all things UK produced collector, so I'm guessing that he has one.

Do you think that anyone has complete shop display kit for the 1978-79 range that includes the sticker? Someone like Jason Joiner, who I've known since the early 1990s who has a huge SW collection, could have one. Also, do you know whose collection the large cardboard version of the sticker was from in the CE Palitoy Archive?

James.

There was another sticker the same as this one in the Palitoy Archive which I presume was also Darren's. That one was mounted on a clear perspex block. Some of the other shop display stuff was his too. Not sure if the larger cardboard display was his or not, it's a very nice piece whoever's it is! The MOC was all Gary's and there was another collector or two for playsets/ships and dolls/diecasts. The collectors I've not named wanted to remain annoymous and as such even I don't know who they are, and I was one of the archive sponsors!
