Jedi Master
So this series has been out ten years. Different friends have had the dvd on their shelves at their home alongside doctor who, star trek box sets, and other sci fi classics. I've noticed their collections and had conversations about them, how great and so alien tom baker was, the episode of star trek where they time travel and go back to the old 'trouble with tribbles' original star trek episode. And no-one ever said 'fireflys pretty good. You should check it out'.
Seriously, I've recently signed up for netflix, and was really disappointed at the selection. I wanted some classic sci fi and fantasy, and they had relatively little. I noticed firefly, and thought 'meh, its on a lot of my friends shelves, I'll give it a go'.
Though I'm only on the fourth episode and am well aware this could be a something that ends up ****, I haven't fell in love with a series so much since doctor who came back in 2005. And as I was only fifteen, (more preoccupied with my PS2 and wanking) I was somewhat less critical of films or tv back then as I am now.
I'm probably already preaching to the choir, you've probably all seen Firefly, but if there are any members here who haven't, go do it! Everything is perfect, and no film or series I've seen in a long time is perfect! The characters are fantastic, some loveable protagonists and a despicable enemy, beautiful women (though I'd much rather marry the ships dorky mechanic, who is now my dream woman!) A rusting spaceship (that serves as the main setting) that is the second coolest vehicle of all time after the millennium falcon, and the whole show has a real sick wild western vibe to it, that doesn't feel forced like other sci fi/wild west crossovers (cowboys and aliens).
This isn't a review of a series, just an exclamation of my surprise that no one had recommended it to me, and my sincere advise that anyone who hasn't seen it should definitely do so!
