Fergie is to retire at end of season

Strange one this. As a self confessed ABU, and as someone who thinks Fergy has LESS class than a used condom, I cant say I'll miss the sour faced **** at all.
I have a lot of respect for his achievements, but none for the man himself.

Moyes replacing him is a bit ehhh underwhelming I guess. By no means a bad manager but not one that instantly makes you think "yeah, great choice." He's done well at Everton on a budget of £3.27 and half a Bounty bar, BUT he hasn't exactly played attractive football. They are no Stoke or WH, but 'workman like' would be a generous description of their style. Maybe that's all he could achieve with his resources, and a I suspect the glory hunters won't care about the style of play too much if he wins stuff at Utd, but time will tell.
He has pretty much no European experience and a long term issue with Rooney, but as he looks to be on his way out that may not be a big problem.
I agree that Utd squad is ropey (Anderson is woeful, Nani, Young, and Valencia all look to be on their way out). I think I've said before that whilst Utd were worthy champions this season it was a case of being the best of a bad bunch. And that's meant as indictment of the rest of PL not Utd.

Moyes needs a new CM and a play maker in the Modric mould. As well as wingers with an ounce of consistency and probably a new CB as Vidic and Ferdinand are getting on a bit. Ohh and I still think Evra flatters to deceive.

As for Moyes replacement. BIG BIG call for Everton. They need a miracle worker. That club hasn't got the budget to compete with the top half, yet Moyes has kept there for most of his time. Personally I think Martinez would be a great choice. I can't see Wigan staying up, so it will depend on whether he tries to stick around and get them back up or if he decides it's time to move on.
Martin O'Neil and Mark Hughes whilst both solid enough PL managers would be best ignored.

Good post Weasel, I'm red till I die, and everyone has their right to an opinion on Fergie the man himself, that's whats so good about football

I think as you say his achievements are second to none and the general opinion, taking away tribal affiliation, prejudices and attributes, most people would applaud the mans achievements which are without equal
To build The number of squads he has and continue to win premierships is phenomenal, Laudroup got it right on MOTD when he stated in Europe if a manager does 5 years it's a long time so to be around the time Fergie has and consistently win trophies you have got to applaud that.
Moyes I think has the chance to prove what he can do and with a pretty basic squad he needs to spend quick... Lets see what he can do
Rooney to me should have gone last time, but well see
Agree on NANi, Anderson, and Valencia but bit of an Evra fan, however he's slowed up now
Vidic was an awesome signing, just too many injuries, and Plug has been immense for the club again needs replacing, Jones and Cleverley are super prospects, RVP what a signing, DG has got on track with his keeping, Carrick is awesome WHEN on song. Been great this season, but not consistent enough
Modric type player needed I agree

New manager, new beginning lets see where it goes, but for now I'm off to the parade to pay homage to one of the greatest football managers we are ever likely to have seen or see again, Fergie has brought so much to the game, he can be derided, hated, and ridiculed by fans...I would expect nothing else...but for his achievements all should respect

P.s. Ronaldo please

Some Great posts guys 8)

would just to say on the rooney situation. IF he does go would absolutely love to see Robert Lewandski from Dortumund replace him!! :D :D :D

I agree Rooney probably should have been sold last time he spat the dummy out. Although, as it was City interested in him and they were and are Utd's nearest rivals, i suspect the fans wouldn't have taken too kindly to them flogging their main striker to their nearest rivals (think Newcastle and Andy Cole) so soon after selling Ronaldo.

I suspect given how he's played this season, his general borderline lack of fitness and penchant for fags and drink, ohh and his ridiculous wages, Utd wouldn't be unhappy to see him go if they got 20-25 million for him.

Baines to Utd is a near cert i'd say. Fellaini too.
Although i do worry when a manager instantly raids his old club for players. Can he not work with new players or explain his ideas. To them?

Re new manager for Everton, yes, probably Martinez. O'Neill is a fine manage but seems to have lost the spark. Also, while Everton can often grind results, they are capable of very dynamic football, like thier first the weekend was magnificent.

Completely understand how Sir Alex can get peoples back up, I don't like the berating and histrionics, but it's been undeniably effective. In general United have been very good this season, and were a little unfortunate to progress in Europe, having out-foxed Mourinho's Real. Not United's fault that there's been no decent challenge.

Evra is still a very good player, but should he be made an offer, Baines may find it difficult to turn down the opportunity to follow Moyes. Swap for Rooney maybe?

Rooney is def off, Utd will say he can't go to keep the price up..went to the parade today, and he was def low key, straight on the bus and to the front, whilst all the others took a proper bow.
Rooney has def done a job, and has been class, but he's never had the utd passion, just look at RVP, he was born to be at utd
Lets see...def Rooney to go...I really have a gut feeling that Ronaldo is on the cards

The parade today was f***in awesome, I always go, 99 was massive...but the fans surpassed that today...there were Mancs, toddlers, mums, dads, kids, babies in prams, grannies ( hands off Wazza :!: )
Just put that against the PSG debacle today
Whatever anyone says that's why utd are so successful, it's in the bones of the club, the city, the fans, the players everyone.....what a fantastic send off today for The Best manager ever, proud to be a part of it

RVP was in seventh heaven 8)

Nice one Alex, thanks.....

Anyone see Contrau sitting on the bench for Real last Sat when he wasn't even in the squad?
Casillas turns round, looks at him and starts laughing.

MArtinez's arrival would worry me if i were an Everton fan. He clearly has a problem getting teams to defend. Year in year out his team has had one of if not THE worst defence in the league. Defending is something Everton have always relied upon when quality, game wining players are not in abundance. He has no previous experience managing at that level, and believe me, Everton is a very different level to Wigan. His track record just says "almost relegated Wigan" each season and this year will finally say "relegated Wigan". Hmmm... :?
