Fat Sam gets the England job

Who would you appoint then?

The England job is currently a poison chalice, it's a career ender, look at Capello and Ericsson, both world class coaches whose careers were basically destroyed after managing England.

We're not going to get a top class coach at moment, Wenger was linked but why would he want the job. The managers seriously in the running - Alladyce, Hoddle, Bruce, Klinsmann, Southgate - an uninspiring list of names, Alladyce manages poor teams and that is precisely what we are, out of those names listed he's the best of a bad batch

Who would I appoint? Not sure really, agree with what you have said. But I haven't been paid thousands of £s to make that decision and sit on my ass for the last 5 years watching the English national side stand still at best and do nothing about it hoping that Roy Hodgson was all of a sudden going to pull a rabbit out of his hat.

Don't agree that international managers should be overlooked just because the two that we've had have been poor, the fact is a lot of international managers know the top end of English football better than most English managers.

A friend met Harry Redknapp at some charity event the other week and asked him why he diden't get the England job. He said apparently he's not the FAs cup of tea, says it all really. Bunch of idiots running the national side.

So yeah I would appoint Harry Redknapp above big Sam.

It would be be funny if Fat Sam or Big Sam whatever you guys prefer to call him!
Imagine he rocked the World Cup and almost pulled it off!
This thread would be red hot

I agree the list of candidates was pretty uninspiring. Wenger would have been a good choice, but he won't leave Arsenal until next summer at the earliest so that rules him out. My knowledge of European football is pretty ropey outside the big 3/4 clubs but surely to god someone at the FA is charged with keeping an eye on potential upcoming managers who many be worth considering? It wouldn't even need to be a full time job, given the plethora of football on tv and Youtube, he could have an approximate shortlist of 10-12 potential names. Odds are a few will be in jobs they dont want to leave or will be stinking the place out, but surely there are a couple who would be worth approaching.

I wouldn't have given it to any of Bruce, klinnsman, Redknapp, Southgate or Hoddle. All a combination of yesterday's men, not very good journeymen managers, not very good managers, or just tossers.

If you want names, what about Qique Sanchez Flores, he late of Watford. Quality manager. Great CV. I think he's available (happy to be corrected there). He knows the PL.
Uni Emery would be another. Ok he doesn't know the PL as well but still ticks the other boxes.

If the manager HAS to be English. You're shooting yourself in the foot. You have NO good managers atm. I don't mind mean that as a dig, it's just a statement of fact, at the minute. Though I still haven't seen a single sensible argument as to why the manager has to be English.

I mean honestly, WTF!? Astounded. I wasn't exactly thrilled when he got the job, but how can anybody be so stupid.

What happened to harry redknapp? Who is he coaching?

After this controversy you think the fa will go for old floppy chops who can't read and write when he's signing complex legal documents and gets his dog to file his tax returns?

Firstly, I'm shocked that someone who has always said his dream job is the England football manager would do this. I don't know if it's arrogance or stupidity, but I think the FA made the right decision. I know if I did something similar where I work I'd get the sack. These ex-footballers blaming the journalists for this... what planet are they on?

I've no idea who the hell the FA can bring in as a permanent replacement. The front-runners are a joke; Pardew, Bruce, etc... It's depressing.

It looks like the Telegraph have more to come, with talk of 8 current and ex Premier League managers taking bungs. The top levels of football in England really are just about the money now, which just leaves a really nasty taste in the mouth.

While I agree that the world is generally quite corrupt, if you get caught you have to go in my opinion. Eddie Howe? I would actually love to see Redknapp have a go but don't think it will happen.

In a year, 18months, two years time someone will resurrect this thread and some of us are going to be gloating and saying "told you so" while the rest hang their heads in shame.

I was out by 10 months! 8)

As for replacements, Pardew (frying pan to fire), Bruce (I assume based solely on his nationality cos his managerial career is woeful), Howe (good manager but far far too early for him), Hoddle (cos those disabled people won't mind him being reappointed).

I did hear a rumour about the FA wanting Wenger, who is out of contract at Arsenal over the summer. There may be legs in that one, if they can wait until June to appoint him full time, and if Wenger is daft enough to want to manage England. I think he's the best they will get. Though obviously not being English he won't "get the English game" and Ian Wright, Alan Shearer and all the other muppet media twats will be slagging the FA off for it. Cos he struggled in the PL, as did Fergy and Mourinho and Rafa and Kenny Dalglish and all those other johnny foreigner managers who come over and get their arses handed to them on a plate every week by the dozens of top quality English managers out there.

Stuart pearce? He didnt mess about told it how it was he sort the england team.

Who ever is the next boss is doomed in any case. they always are

I'm not sure there is anyone...maybe they should let The Sun run the team, along with their other media buddies they seem to have all the answers as well as the criticisms...
