Fake hardcopy prototypes discovered.

Again i dont want to alarm people but, let alone read the boards he could easily have set up another username.....just like han duo. Its so sad (as in upsetting) these few ruin the hobby for the many. I really fail to understand the mentality :?

note to self

"stay away from prototypes"

this just emphasizes the troubles the hobby has nowadays, and it will get worse as the repros get better

I agree. Over half the "So-called" prototypes you see are made by people in their own shops.

Hello everyone that knows me, and hello to everyone that doesn't :) I hope you don't mind an American intruding in your forums :)
Even so, I have a fairly good reputation for being open, and helpful with everyone regardless of where we happen to live.
This situation is effecting many of my collecting friends from all points of the globe.
I wanted to take a moment to address this situation as an objective, non-involved, but informed party.

This is easiest the worst (money-value) scam that I have ever seen in my entire collecting experience, and I am truly sorry for anyone
who is wrapped up in this. Several collectors have offered funds to contribute towards any legal expenses. If you are effected by this,
or have reason to suspect you are, PLEASE do not hesitate to contact someone and let us/them know.

In regards to pre-production/prototype items; I have always maintained this is the most difficult area of the hobby to get into, not necessarily for
the funds required, but simply due to a factor of supply and demand. It requires work, dedication, networking, and above all else, educating yourself
about the subject at hand. Some of the suspect pieces are so bad than many people are shocked that this wasn't discovered earlier on. Personally,
I never dealt with the person in question simply because I didn't believe him. The rough estimate that I was coming up with for him, of pieces offered
and owned, was literally more than every known source combined. (The Earth, Tom (Derby), Tom N., Steve Denny, etc). This is a classic case of if it's
too good to be true, it usually is.

I guess the moral of the story is; ask questions. If someone tells you to *not* disclose something, unless this is coming from a direct source with a valid reason, this is a huge red flag. Aside from the usual mud-slinging going on other sites, many of us are always available to answer questions, or give advice. While my main focus/subject is Darth Vader, I have seen quite a bit of high profile items in my time. If anyone has any questions, or just wants to drop me a line, the best way to reach me is at my regular email ([email protected])

I think we should look at this as an opportunity to learn and study these pieces, and not let things get out of hand. These suspect pieces are only a small fraction of the total population, which shows exactly how high "up" these pieces are considered within the hobby.

That's a pretty obtuse statement. I can assure you none of these came from or through Scott, or were made in
someone's garage shop.

How about "**** Off"....was that Obtuse or just ignorant. Oh..I am sorry you are wealth of Star Wars knowledge and we feel great that you made your presence known with your grand words of wisdom...I would have never thought that they made real hardcopies. I did'nt ask for your highly educated opinion which really said nothing more than anyone else's.

LMAO ..
Since you posted such an obtuse, moronic and fairly ignorant statement, you pretty much opened the door for commentary from people who actually know what they are talking about. I'm confused - if you didn't ask for a response or wanted one, why waste the time to post proof of your own stupidity ? Let me guess; your parents didn't give you enough attention when you were a little boy, and now you are like the rest of the idiot trolls on the internet.

Sadly, people like you do nothing but confuse the issues at hand, and really have nothing constructive to offer the hobby. So from that perspective I feel sorry for someone like you who really has no ability, or aspirations to be anything more than what you are. You have no desire to learn, or educate yourself, so at some point you really have to ask yourself why you have such self-loathing that you spend so much time being so negative, and really are just taking up space.

Back to the issue at hand; if anyone thinks they have a suspect piece, please post a follow up on RS.com People are doing everything they can to assist, and address these pieces.

Jesus guys!

A highly respected member of the community joins here, provides a little insight into the situation & is offering his help to anybody on this side of the pond who might have been caught up in this scam & he is then told to "**** off" & is called a "twat" is bang out of order as far as i'm concerned!

Bill did call out Todd though. I'm guessing there's some history between these two.

My thoughts exactly.

Firstly, Every new member is welcome here (apart from known scammers obviously), regardless of how long they have been collecting or how large a collection they have.

Secondly, I think Emiel is right, there is clearly some history between Bill and Todd. I don't pretend to know what it is, or to want to know, it's none of my business. But, lets try and keep things civil on the boards, again unless a scammer is involved. You've both insulted each other so I'll call that evens and lets move on.

Thirdly, to Bill, we may not be the most diplomatic of forums but we appreciate your efforts to bring us up to date on the latest with the hardcopies, especially as not all of us get to check RS regularly. I hope you stick around, if only to laugh at the rubbish we talk!

I know we're pretty laid back on here normally guys but, please, have a think before hurling abuse at first time posters, regardless of perceived/actual 'staus' in the hobby!

I'd be reaching for the Prada. It looks like itsmade of sturdy stuff!

Seriously though guys, there aint much need for any of this. With all due respect Bill, as a truly impartial outsider it looks like the photo could be an attempt to plug your prototypes. (Which may I congratulate you on!) :)

On the other hand, I appreciate that you are trying to provide help/info on the prototype situation and that is great. I think any help/ light that can be shed on this dire situation has got to be commended. Too many good people have been bitten by this and still waters will run deep. :|

Come on peeps. No one is on these boards to bicker with fellow collectors. Lets just carry on bashing spammers and scammers! Its way more fun!
