Unfortunately there are bell ends in all walks of life , I joined FB a few weeks ago and I am using it for another avenue of SW collecting . My expectations are realistic and just don't pay too much interest to wannabe sellers or so called experts ,

Most of us in the hobby for many years are already familiar with the hobby 'experts' vs those that think they have the whole hobby understood in a year or two, as well as sellers vs flippers.

It beggars belief sometimes and makes me think that, here i am Joe Average chap with a life long love of the hobby and suddenly fee like the hobby is impregnated with guys earning pop star wages!
It is eye watering to see stuff get exchanged at the rate it does.
What incensed me last night was the British Facebook group Echo Base :roll:
Some chap put up a post asking if anyone had a Teebo Staff for sale.
I PM'd him just in case he actually had one and float tested to find it sank and thought it was a repro, i just wanted to make sure he wasn't discounting a legit one. Not everyone knows that Teebo Staff's sink.
I put a post saying "Pm'd you mate"
Within 30 seconds i had 2 Admins jumping in demanding i put; "price and photos please Jez"
I mean WTF, all i said was "PM'd you mate"
Steady on lads, the power has got to your heads. What possible harm could come of me PM'ing someone.
I sent him a PM cuz i didn't want to embarrass him and then i get jumped on??

Some people open a FB group and suddenly think they have been elevated above everyone else. The one thing none of those knobs can understand is that you cannot buy knowledge. Sure, you can be wealthy and buy everything for inflated prices, but that doesnt mean you know everything. Jesus, i no longer collect Palitoy SW logo cards but i know that i know a lot more than some of the fly by night cowboys who pedal themselves as messiahs, and trust me its bloody annoying but let them think what they want.
There are too many tools in the FB tool bag, simples.

There's a few of us finished with that group now Jez. The latest two stunts by one of their self professed experts hasn't sat well with me. There's only so many times you can complain about how a group is run before giving in and saying **** it. And now I know I'm one of a growing troupe of collectors after conversations from the last month or so. I've had plenty of PM's saying why bother with that group but there are some decent guys on there.
One thing I will say though - I have absolutely no respect for people who sit and whine behind keyboards, stamping their feet and saying **** behind people's backs. Have the balls to go and say it to them, some place where they can read it, somewhere they are actually a part of. Or even better, directly to their face when the opportunities arise. Messages that are posted however private eventually end up in a destination that is likely to come back and bite you in the arse. Perhaps if it was said directly then it could be sorted out? Some people need a ****ing reality check.

Richard, trust me from experience, being one of "those guys" that doesn't sugarcoat things, while being honest and direct to someone face to face (or is that screen to screen :lol: ) gets you lots of respect from some people, there is usually a larger group that regards you as a troll, out of touch, an asshole, etc., and it creates an online experience that involves more drama than the average person can or wants to tolerate. I'm not scared of it, and despise people who are superficial so have no issues confronting them, but it's definitely more than the average person wants to deal with.
And yes, lots of people need that reality check.

I suggest a "Pm'd you mate with a question not related to selling you this item". That would keep it private, and keep the admins off your back (I think).

That sale was a joke and the admins did well to nip it in the bud. The seller may have had good intentions but it would be terrible to set a precedent for other sellers to set up fishing pre-sales post. I ****ing hate it. The other day in a comic collecting group I asked for some help with a comic value (basically the hottest comic right now). I can't count the amount of PMs I received about wanting to buy it. So I guess this attitude is not limited to our hobby.

Just catching up a little now the move is out of the way, read the Jake Repas/Trilogo sale comments and just wanted to comment as it's my group!
Believe it or not, Jake was an admin of the Trilogo group but sadly not actally someone I knew, he was added when the group was created and was a friend of another admin (mistake that won't be made again!). Typically this all happened when I was between houses with limited net access but by the time I was notified of it, his post in the Trilogo group had been deleted.
Jake's admin rights were removed the second I heard about all of this, kind of pissed me off because I had to add another rule about "preview" sale posts when Marc did the same thing a few weeks back..so Jake was well aware of the rules - he just didn't care enough to do things by the book.
I've had a look at his sale thread tonight and his prices are piss takes, he has no for sale thread in my group at present and never will because I've just banned him from it.

Started innocently, but he decided to be an ass, so I called him on it. It quickly escalated, and because I don't have much of a Facebook presence, all his buddies - true to my post above - labeled me a troll, asshole, etc. And I was, but as I said, I don't sugarcoat it. Got myself banned from the group, lol.
Sooo.......not meaning to make this a FB drama, but just demonstrating one of the negative aspects of FB. The herd mentality. Doesn't matter if you're wrong or right. The person with the largest vocal supporters often win, and that's not always the right outcome. And Joe, I know your group wouldn't be like that.

It is disconcerting seeing the fb flippers. It's so dam transparent that it the drive of money is there. You see what sickens me most is the self righteous excuse of, 'I have a family to take care of' or 'This is how I make my living' Bullshit through and through and I would prefer to read the truth of 'Yes I do it for cash' and 'I'm a shallow prick'.
On Facebook I was selling items from my collection in 2013 and 2014 for the purpose of fine tuning or being more focus driven with my remaining collection. I typically sold everything quickly. No one really haggled but some would try due to the nature of it all but in the end I would never have stupid prices so my items would sell. A decent Action figure Display stand... $60-$80 maybe. That is what comes to my mind as reasonable and if I was selling one now that is what I would price it.
Problem is some dirt bag piece of **** (after that almighty dollar) would buy it and flip using the excuses I mentioned above. It's simple for me really, I just say **** 'em. I have the good fortune to know better and the network to ask many of you for help and guidance when I need it.
If someone has a collection from 1985 when they were a kid, decides to use their Facebook account to search for Star Wars, and then decides to buy something from some **** flipper for stupid prices without researching then too bad for them. We are not talking about teenage, wet behind the ears people. Most are grown ass men that should know better and be more responsible with their money.
I've met some great people, beyond belief, with this hobby. I am very thankful for you guys and knowing that many of you share the hobby with me.
The point of ALL that writing I just did; Buying from FaceBook is the same as buying anywhere else in the world, don't be stupid and throw your money away when all you have to do is pay attention and be responsible.
