Ebayer MOC damaged in post question

Hi guys

I've just recieved a MOC in the post from an ebay seller. Totally crap packaging bubble is now cracked.

He says no problem with a full refund but he wants me to write a covering letter stating it was damaged in transit. Once he receives this he will refund me.

I'm just wondering if I'm walking into a scam of some sort?

Any advice here?

Not sure what you have to loose. From my personal experience they have to claim back from the PO so need some proof from yourself that this was the case

It's what I was thinking - I just wondered if my letter signed could in some way show that RM was responsible and therefor ebay would not refund if it came to me having to claim fro ebay

I'm maybe looking to hard into this :?

Write the letter slightly different to your handwriting and if then he dont pay you, say you didnt write anything and hes forged it

This has been covered dozens of times on here but it does bare mentioning again- be careful not to mention the packaging was damaged. Just say "the item was damaged in the post".
Even tho it's a letter for him, presumably to hand to the post office BUT he could use it against you with ebay. Unlikely but possible.
By the way, if you don't want to writer the letter, don't. Just open a case with ebay and get your money back. People have to remember; it's not up the sellers whether you get a refund or not.

Very true Pete - good point. OK the chap says an email will do. I'm slightly puzzled by that :? I would have imagined a formal hand written letter signed and dated...

He also states don't worry about returning the figure keep it as a gesture of goodwill, sounds too good to be true.
If I state "the item was damaged in the post" I should be fine? I think :? ... mmm

To be honest, it genuinely sounds like the guy is going to do the right thing - eBay (and probably the internet) leads you to be suspicious and there are some scumbags out there - but you have to have faith in something !

I can not see an issue with you saying that the item was damaged in the post and you will win the case if you open it up

It just means that he didn't have any funds in his paypal account so your payment has been made via 'echeque' - this is set up to stop people defrauding eBay/paypal - shouldn't be any issues providing he has funds in his bank account linked to paypal

They check all refunds for money laundering so the refunded money won't be available straight away.

thats really weird ive recieved almost the same mail yesterday same prob . does the sellers ebay name start with , by any chance ?

just too add did he say once you were refunded you could keep the moc ? or did he expect it back to send you your refund and then essentially he would have his card back and profit the compensation from the mail himself , pm me again ,

This is not the first time i read this kinda post from you and no offence Pete, but it gives me the impression your not really an understanding buyer aswell if an issue would come up and would sucker the seller in by working your way around with eBay to get your money refunded, before the seller even has a chance to make things right.... :?

Not really sure what you're saying. If you mention "the packaging was damaged" ebay will not see that as relevant and you won't be entitled to a refund. So you have to be very careful when speaking to the seller not to mention that because you don't know where it's gonna end up. He may refuse the refund then you are ****ed.
I always tell people t speak to the seller first, if you read my posts you'll already know that but i always advice people not to get into a back and fourth with the seller. Ask for a refund, if he doesn't give it open a case. It's quite plain and simple. Don't really see what your issue is with that kind of advice.

No worries at all. I guess you could say i'm not an understanding buyer but only in circumstances where i think there has been unacceptable negligence on the part of the seller. For instance sending an MOC in an envelope. In that case i wouldn't even contact them i think probably just open a case and demand an immediate refund. **** em. In instances where i know the seller is not at fault, for instance packages not turning up or whatever i always give the seller as much time and understanding as i would want when these things happen.
I'm quick to advise caution and for people to remember they can use ebay's 'case' system if they are in any doubt or if the seller is being problematic or uncommunicative because i am a full time ebay seller and have experienced every issue, problem and solution you could possibly imagine, and a few you couldn't both as a seller and a buyer. If the wrong thing is said or the claim is not handled in the right way you as a buyer could lose your money.

a man after my own heart 8) this could have been me that wrote this above , easy to see you have been ebaying as long as i have ,until recent the only thing i had never encountered in 12 years was a chargeback and had never had to exact one myself either . well that finally happened this year and gave me the extra insight required about that which pretty much gives me the fullset in my arsenal of ebay / paypal knowledge lol
