I bought something on eBay that wasn't as described, so returned it. The seller issues a refund, then a few days later I get an email from Paypal saying that it didn't complete, I assume due to lack of funds. But as far as eBay/Paypal are concerned the refund has been done, there is no option to open a claim in either. no response from the seller.

what am I supposed to do now?

I've never heard of this as paypal refunds you in full whether the seller has funds or not.
You just need to call paypal and find out what's going on.

The seller has just replied and reckons the money has left his account?

Yep definitely haven't got it, the Paypal email says to get in touch with the seller! Guess I'll have to give them a call.

Yeah, call them. They'll know what's going on.

Here's the incredibly helpful Paypal email:

I've had this before but it happened the other way and I couldn't refund back. For me it was because my bank card had expired and when I put the new one in the system didn't like it.

Phoned eBay myself and turns out the c-nut cancelled the refund after receiving the item. Will be adding to the 'avoid' list!

So, i assume you'll still be getting your refund?

Good to hear it's all been sorted and another ebay idiot hasn't got away with it.

Out of interest where do you find the phone number to call ebay? I'm having a problem as I bought something the other day and then received a message from ebay saying the sellers account had been taken over by someone else so they didn't have the item. Then ebay removed the listing so that when I try to contact them about it I can't find the image of what I bought to click onto and get the phone number.

To make matters worse the person who I sent the paypal payment to has sent something from China with a tracking number. I can only image that it'll be an empty boy as the name far from matches the ebay account holders name that had been hacked.

I feel I should talk to someone about it before receiving what ever's been sent to see how I can cover myself. Life's never easy is it? :?
