Does anyone support repro in any format?

If its not from the era, its not vintage, its not even Star Wars. Just a piece of plastic. Might as well be a My Little Pony accessory.

This ^^^^^ is exactly how I feel too. I collect vintage SW because it's vintage. Because it's special. Because I played with this stuff 30-some years ago as a child. The nice example stuff we all have acquired in our collections is special because it survived. It wasn't some sticker or some foam pumped out by some fat loser in his parents' basement last week. It's stuff that has lasted years and is tied to a different and more innocent time in our lives.

So **** repro weapons. So **** repro boxes. So **** repro foam. So **** repro stickers.

I would rather have a broken, yellow Millennium Falcon with all of the stickers peeling off or fallen off than a dead mint one with glistening white repro stickers on it. Not kidding.

I don't and won't have any repro in my collection, don't understand it and would rather go without something than have a copy, I'd know it was a copy and it would forever drive me mad.

Saying that however, not sure of anyone's seen them, but there is a chap called Darren Orme who is creating copies of the old boxes and these are astounding and beautiful, I've already bought thirty plus for my collection, they really finish off the look of a collection

Ouch.

No offence to you, but Orme is a piece of ****. Poor quality copies of vintage boxes that fade in a year, that do unfortunately look very nice in pictures - which directly leads to their misuse in sales. Orme is well known in our hobby - and is universally despised by almost everyone for doing to MISB items what repro cardbacks have done to MOC's.

Mate, don't even joke about that! He'll copy/paste your comment and use it on his ebay listings "endorsed by SWFUK".

Haha surely that's a wind up about the boxes??? Or at least I'd hope

totally agree with you Ross_barr I'd rather have an original figure or vehicle with missing parts than a pristine one with repro

What you have just written is exactly what was on my mind

Jeez, you got me man.

I believed it for a moment, then after your response to Bonsai saw you were being sarcastic. Phew.

Ian

PS. Ya, that's a definite "no" on liking them. ;)

A little bit of excellent Star Wars related news I heard lately was that Orme's boxes fade after a short while. That'll learn those who bought them :p

I wonder how this sort of question would go down on Jason's group on FaceBook - or for that matter in the current general chat section of RS

My guess is

"they are my toys to do as I want"
"I don't have the money to buy vintage"
"Darren Orme is a great bloke and I am proud to call him a friend"

You missed out:

"I've only been collecting a few months but have spent thousands overpaying so my opinion is the definitive answer to the question"

Sadly, this is the one that is becoming more and more prevalent. Money only buys education in school. Hobby education takes time, not money, and these guys don't get it. :(

You do realise that in 20 years these boxes will be vintage, right?

They could be 500 years old, and I would not consider them 'vintage'. Just old. :)

Guys I am not asking this so everyone can start ripping the back out of the guy, but buy reading those posts I think a few of you guys wouldn't care :)
This is the first forum I ever joined so I would just like a quick run down why nobody is too keen on dealing with this guy Orme! Does he only sell repro? What's his e bay username? Does he sell any vintage? Is he selling in the UK? And I take it he doesn't give a **** about selling repros? Does he list them as repros?

No to reproductions on all fronts. If they are out there then they can be used to fool people that don't know better. I'm under no illusions tho they are out there and they ain't going away unfortunately. Do your Homework. That's the best protection against them. Just personal choice tho and this is nothing more than my 2 pence worth... Now carry on debating. 8)

He exemplifies everything that is wrong with the collecting scene now. Greed and quick fixes.
