hi guys,
I used to have the commodity code written down but can 't find it. does anyone happen to have it on hand? I will be sending some stuff to the uk and would like to save people the customs fees.
thanks
chris

State item qualifies as 'Old Collectable Toy' HMRC code 9705000090 and that it should be charged at only 5% VAT. Unfortunately, no matter what the taxable amount it will still be liable to an additional handling fee of £8 for the recipient.

Alternatively if it's low cost you can assign $20 value to the item and then it wont be charged at all.

Hope this helps!

In practice you still get stung with the 20% VAT and have to claim it back - in my experience anyway! Bloody annoying.

so if I mark it as a $20 gift there is no need for the commodity code?

But no insurance either. The saying "caught between a rock and a hard place" springs to mind.

And be my last claim was refused - I had to ring another department who said the code was only valid for cars...
