Do you have standards/rules who you sell too?

Just have a few things that are up on ebay as i had a few non core collection figures remaining.

now these are not beaters and include some nice stormies with weapons.one or two are c9 and are nice pieces and as usual they are surplus but i would like them to go to a good home,(i am sentimental like that)

i then get an e-mail thru ebay, with a guy inquiring about combined postage. he also mentions the figures are for his son, who is 5?
and doesn't really care what he gets.!!

Now i have no problem with dads buying up some beaters for kids to play with but the better stuff goin to be buried in the back yard or melted doesnt sit easy with me?

Now yeah the kid could treasure them and become a fan and pass em on,, but a part of me feels they are as good as chewed.!!

i am sure someone might bid them out of the price range or they could be for him and he is embarrassed to admit collecting SW.
But would anyone else feel weird about letting them go to this possible fate??

I agree with you mate! Whenever I sell anything I try to make sure that the Item goes to a proper collctor and not some idot who is going to give the figures to his kids! :x :x

I've had items I felt the same way about when selling so I include in the description that due to the fact they are vintage items and 30 + yrs old they are collectors items for display use only and would not be suitable for young children to play with. Seems to work.

As you said the people buying them for kids usually loose interest when the price starts rising.

I once owned a 1973 Chrysler/Valiant 318V8 770 Charger ( Aussie built Muscle car ) which I unfortunatley had to sell due to cash problems. Worst mistake I ever made was selling it to some Yuppy who's Daddy had given him the cash to buy a new car. I babied this car the whole time I owned it, kept it original only to see it a couple of years later absolutely ****ed and unappreciated. 30 years this car had survived in pristine condition to be trashed by some little ****.

But I digress, if you can avoid selling something you treasure to someone you think won't. Do you utmost to deter them I say!

Sorry for waffling now i'm in a **** mood thinking about that car. :(

I'm happy to sell mine and know that they are going to be played with. These things were made in their millions and loose figs are cheaper than modern star wars toys - so good value for dads

my kids have pretty much a full set of vintage figs, ships and micro stuff, and it does pain me when I see another X-wing bite the dust or the micro figs get the paint knocked off them - but its what the toys are all about :D

but to be fair, they prefer Harry Potter lego

I have no rules. I only sell if I need money so am not going to turn down a sale, I dont care what happens afterwards :)

i remember when i was about 4 i had only just started collecting and my dad managed to track down a complete obi. My dad gave it to me and by the time i got to the car i had bitten the tip off the saber because i thought it was just a bit of plastic that wasnt suppose to be there. Since that all my best figures went in baggies on the wall and any beaters were mine

Just to play devil's advocate here.....

If you were selling a MOC and the person you had agreed a deal with turned round and said "I can't wait to see what U grade AFA give this!" Would people still sell to him/her!?

I would think the person was a prick but would still sell it.

Even if it was a very nice AFA 85 Tri Logo Yak............for instance!?

i think i would even sell a figure to that scamming **** billy boy

on a different note i will be at earls court this sunday but not saturday, anyone else going ?

I block people i find out about on the forums who have ****ed about or conned people. Other than that i will sell to anyone and they can do what they like with the stuff unless i know for a fact they are going to UGrade an moc. I generally wouldn't deal with anyone who partakes in Ugrading.

yeah waesel ,, i think that when it is some things that is relatively rare like an MOC or such, i would be happier to sell to a collector who would keep it as it is and not wreck or thrash it, hence reducing the amount of them around.

as for loose their are more around ,,,,, but less than there were 20 years ago when ther were millions is attics?
But who is to say in twenty years from now when there are even less loose i wont be kicking my self sayin
" damn i sold minty stormies with weapons to a kid who probably colored them in an ate the weapons"

or he could pipe up on the forum and say those fig are why i got into collecting  unlikely but possible.

interesting perspectives on this thread.

Im a bit of a salesman, but i dont like destruction of collectors items by any means, on the flip side as my recent issues come to make me feel, i no longer take figures with such a passion.

If i had a nice item i wouldnt sell it to certain collectors to be destroyed ect, however if i had beaters that a i couldnt shift and a U grader wanted them, then id do it.

There are far more important things in life but we still all have morals and limits.

All good in the end, they all went to good homes especially the nice stormies which went for over a tenner. One nearly tipped 20 euro .

So I guess price ensures nothing of worth gets into the hands of those who might treat them worse than we hope.
