Damaged in transit

Hi. Bought a 21 back moc last week from eBay and it's been damaged in transit. I asked the seller to send it boxed but it arrived today, in unrecorded post, in a ****ing jiffy bag :shock:
The cards not too bad but the bubble has a crack on one corner, so I don't really want it anymore.
Bearing in mind that nobody signed for it, what's the best course of action to take. Should I just contact the seller for my money back or make out its been lost in the post?

God I hate it when that happens - where do these people keep their brains

gut feeling is that you should just claim you didn't get it - I know that is dishonest but you kind of feel like the plank deserves it !

you would definitely win your case with ebay but you might have to pay for postage return - however any claim to be made with Royal Mail will need to be done by the seller
 
Thanks for the reply Iain. My wife said the postman was gonna bend the jiffy bag in half to get it through the letter box! WTF!
Gonna see how bad it is when I get home, but my gut feelings the same as yours. I'll contact him in a few days and ask him if he has a tracking number(which he won't) and then open a case.
I know it's a bit dishonest but ...........
 
**** him, it's his own stupid fault he didn't send it a) in a box and b) by recorded delivery

And to do that to a 21 back :eek: :eek: :eek: That is beyond belief
 
Guys just be careful with your advice, i know what i would do but if the seller browses this forum you are putting yourselves in the firing line lol.

I would be majorly pissed off if some one did that to me, you can open a case and demand a partial refund, the seller doesnt agree then let it go to ebay to decide, you can put your case forward for them to review (ie explaining you dont want to pay for return post fully insured ect)

But its a long shot...dont let him off ;)

Ha ha - it shouldn't be that hard to get it right considering his user name !

Maybe you have a touch of the 'Klauses'
 
Hi Lee sorry to hear about what happend to that moc.

I have also seen this happen before and learned my lesson. I always write to a seller about how I expect them to pack it. Unless they write to me about how they will pack it. Some people do not know how to pack items.

Some of the worst things I have received was 4 moc just with some paper around them and they was bend when I received them, they was not even in a case :cry:
 
Lee, I hate hearing about this happening, especially to an earlier MOC. I'm sure you're gutted as I know I would be too.

I hate to say this, but I'd say the exact same thing about the members suggesting Lee say he didn't get it. First, you're suggesting this on a public forum, second what if the seller/ebay does find out, where is your case then? Finally, now do other sellers here and other boards want to deal with you guys in knowing you'd make something up like that?

My suggestion is contact the seller, tell him that because it wasn't sent in a box it didn't arrive as it was described/shown. Tell him you'd like a refund or partial refund whichever you'd like to go for. If he doesn't cooperate then open a claim. Not every seller is a collector and knows how to ship a MOC.

For the future, as was mentioned, a best practice is to contact the seller and tell them specifically that you'd like it shipped in a box and will even pay the few extra quid for it.
 
I have to agree with Shawn, The seller is clearly a jackass and they deserve to be out of pocket to the tune of the damage caused by the own stupidity but saying it didnt arrive is a no no IMHO. Ask for a partial or a full refund and if they dont play ball open a dispute with Paypal.

Ebay will find in his favour but will insist that he does it at his own cost - and within this cost he WILL have to send it recorded because sure as **** if he doesn't the original seller will claim it hasn't turned up.

I think that this is unfair - however you are right in terms of this being a public forum and perhaps things like that should not be said

That might not be the case though. I recently had to return an item that ended up being repro. Opened a claim which ebay sided with me, and ebay even paid the return shipping cost for me. I also received the entire amount including shipping cost back from the seller, so I was out nothing. I'm not sure if it is different on ebay UK.

These days ebay generally sides with the buyer.

Still, in suggesting he lie, it would make me question in the future if you were to open a watch out thread on someone if you were telling the truth or not. Does this not make you just as bad as the person who wronged you in the first place?
 
Fair point - I would like to think that reputation would mean something in that case but it is your prerogative to think as you will

It takes a lot of work to build a good rep, but I've seen it destroyed even quicker with many collectors that were once considered good. I'm not saying that I think that of you myself right now, but in posting something like this, your rep very well could be on the line.

I believe in being honest with people I deal with.

I'm also giving the benefit of the doubt that this seller isn't a collector and had no idea they were doing a "wrong" and you are suggesting they be raked over the coals for it without even a chance to make it right. There is a chance they'd even refund without having to go through the whole claim process.
 
Quick update. I contacted the seller earlier on to let him know it was damaged. I'm a big believer in karma!
Now I'm home and I've seen it, I'm pretty sure it's a repro card, so the anger has turned to embarrassment! The photo of Luke on the 21back is not as sharp as the one on the ROTJ card I have. Also the back seems a little blurry. While I'm no expert, it doesn't seem right. Im gonna message the seller again for a refund, and open a case with eBay.
The bubble actually survived ok, apart from a small crack on the top corner.
If anyone can pm me any obvious signs to look for on a repro before I give the seller a round of ****s, it would be appreciated.
Oh and Fred, sorry, I mean Frank, I've been called a lot worse than Tim before :lol:
