 my beloved passat redeye, broke a timing belt yesterday, and for those that dont know much about cars,, thats terminal.

It looks like i may have to either scrap it and buy a new one or find an engine and fit it and cross my fingers.

either way its gonna cost,,,, and my first thought was crap, i dont have the money, as i just finished paying for it.

So i am gonna have to sell up a chunk of my collection,, at first i was going for the whole lot but my girlfriend said "you cant sell your stormies"

and she is right , so it vehicles and non-imperials.
Large listing to follow,, i have put up stuff for sale on here but never had any bites, so could some help me with prices?? once the stuff is up.
:(

this is just an emergency sale and i will likely build em up again, as i will have the imperial collection and never intend to sell that .

hmmm yeah james i could , it is turning but not firing,, so a timing belt could sort it but the VW garage it got towed too reckons its f**ked but then they would.

Gutted for you matey :( I've had it with cars lately! I was having trouble with the gears not engaging properly, it also got stuck in 2nd gear, and clutch was slipping going up hills and overtaking......Must need a new clutch i thought.....Garage agreed after what i explained, though said they couldn't be 100% sure as it could be syncro's in the gearbox, but the syncro's wouldn't explain the slipping....So i said ok fit a new clutch.

Booked it in, and they rang me to tell me my clutch was fine, not much wear at all, though it was blue in areas which is a sign of overheating..... I got them to put the new clutch in anyway as most of the money was in the labour and the clutch kit was only about £90-£100.

When i picked it up, the gearbox problem was still there :(

So i had to book it in the Syncro's to be done. I got it back and its fine now :D Though i am £1100 lighter :(

I wouldn't mind but the car is only 5 years old!!!!

 yeah i know , mine was 11 years old,,, but i only bought it a year ago.....and just finished paying for it,,,,,, if had savings i wouldnt mind but i dont,, except for a load of plastic figures in the corner,,, which hurts more than withdrawing cash from the bank :(

i know how you feel mate, had a terminal engine malfunction in the fast lane of the m5 a couple of years ago, wouldn't mind if i could get around without a car but these days its just not practical.
i have a couple of your items in watch anyway mate

mate at works golf gt tdi done the same thing back end of last year, went bang on the mway and would turn but not fire, cost him £2k to repair and was never the same so he traded it in against summit else.

if you cant get another engine then it aint gonna be worth fixing..........in my opinion, cars are ****ing shite mate

hope you get back oj the road soon

The timming chain went in my car about 6 weeks ago. When i was over taking a car. Major nightmare. Lucky my dad is a mechanic. Totally rebuilt my enginne for me. Still cost me £800

Cras are ****ing expensive, no doubt about it.
I just had to stick 4 new tyres on mine.........£1136 (inc labour) well spent!
