He probably had to. I think he realised it needed a big overhaul, re-integrating the coaching roll for test/ODI+T20 etc and he didn't want to commit the time to it (for understandable reasons). Plus him and KP didn't exactly see eye to eye.
Shame to see him go mind.

He is the best young batsmen we have and is our best hope. We have gys such as Js Butler who played well and ben Stokes too but neither of them are as consisent as Root and root aint exactly prolific!

Yeah, fair play to Graham Smith, that's one hell of career he had. I've often thought he was a complete bell-end, but as a cricketer, opening batsman and captain, he's been amazing. Big loss for SA. I suspect they will give it to De Villiers and let someone else keep wicket.
SA have lost Smith and Kallis inside a couple of months. This number test ranking seems to be a poisoned challis, teams get it and six months later are "re-building" again. Though, that does make for more entertainment than the years when Australia were head and shoulders above everyone else. They were an amazing side but it's nice to have a bit of variety.


PS, Ireland beat the WI in a T20 week or so ago, that puts your 2-1 ODI victory into context! :lol:
