0-3 so far and the ashes gone....
here are my thoughts:

Cook has been too defensive in captaincy from the off this series especially on fielding tactics

KP: im glad he got his 100 caps. but i think his time is up. played one brash shot too many

i cant believe AUS have scored 1000 more runs than us so far shocking ALL the players have played below par except maybe carberry and stokes who showed no fear!

too many players caught out on missed hook shots when there was no need too play the shot

our Bowlers have been ineffective we lack real pace! we picked trundlers for this tour and that has cost us

we deserve too loose 5-0

I heard that stat the other day. Truly staggering. That's what you would expect if someone was playing Bangladesh (no disrespect to them)!

I actually don't think there is much between the two sides. Certainly the score line last summer flattered England and I think 3-0 is a deceptive score line this time. Yes, Australia have been head and shoulders better than England and deserve to be 3 up, and I suspect will win 5-0, BUT they actually aren't THAT margin better than England in general.
The Aussies are a better than average side, playing very well, motivated by the perceived injustices of last summer.
England are a good side slightly past their peak who are playing woefully and who have far too many players in pish form.

As always in these circumstances people will look at the Aussie side and see nothing but positive, Mitchel Johnson is one fire (but remember him last time England were down there), Brad Haddin is looking a class act etc and look at England and see nothing but negatives Cook, KP, Prior, Swan in poor form Trotty having to go home etc.
The Aussies have/had a settled side, mainly through lack of genuine alternatives, England had issues with the opener. Carberry has done OKAY but I'm still not convinced by him. And, also the third seamer, Rankin and Finn haven't looked test class and Bresnan is so rusty it's hardly fair to judge him.

Add all those factors together and you get one side with a lot going for it, and home advantage, and another side with so many distractions and possibly some complacency....

Still, England should not be scoring 1000 runs less than the Aussies after THREE tests, that's ****ing pathetic!

Yeah very strange one that. He hasnt been playing well so i can understand he feels maybe he's past his peak. Still a strange time ti quit, but after the Trott situation it shows you never know whats going on in someone's head.

Yeh certainly a strange one. i would have throught he would have wanted to go out on high not analmighty low like this. But I agree waht a shambles of a tour!

Well, nothing quite knocks the Christmas spirit out of you then checking the latest Ashes score.

Time for a new captain. One not educated at some posh Twat school and someone with a little grit and determination.

awful awful result we had them 160 all out and then a lead of 100 runs with 10 wickets left........awful.....
cook needs to stand down. bring in chris read as captain/wicket keeper bring back bopara and compton dump bresnan prior tremlett bairstow and monty

that innings by faulkner it the second odi was immense. we deserved to lose the odi's 5-0 too. i have been impressed by some of the oz odi players! i also have been impressed by some of england the odi players. morgan has played amazingly and jordan and buttler have also been good. what has happened to kieswetter.

i see bailey got dropped for the aus/sa tour. harsh as he was last years odi player of the year

on a plus note our women won the womens ashes

I was amazed you and AJ had resisted the temptation to post on this thread!

England are a shambles ATM. That entire tour has been a disaster from Trotty going home, Swan retiring mid series and then Finn basically being told to **** off cos he was playing so badly. All you need is a massive, public, falling out between players or player and coach and you have it all.
It's going to take a long time to fix the morale and confidence after this.

The worrying thing is, that is a decidedly average Aussie team! Head and shoulders above England on current form, but there are no world beaters in that Aussie team.

 Yeah I didn't want to rub any noses.

Have to agree there really aren't any absolute out and out champions in the Aussie team, just a lot of decent players who are finally playing for each other instead of concentrating on how many hair product or deodorant advertising contracts they can score.

The biggest change to the team has been the coach IMO, Boof Leahman has introduced a bit of selflessness back into the Aussie team that was sorely lacking for the past 10 yrs.

Disappointed to see Swan retire he was a funny bugger and a great bowler to boot. Morgan has been outstanding and I've enjoyed watching Jordan, great talents.

Faulkners innings was also a joy to watch  :D

Yeah, I think you're right there.
Can't say I enjoy watching Morgan at all. He should be playing for Ireland not England! He's as English as a flag protest (that may or may not be wasted on our colonial readers). But as the ICC won't give Ireland Test status until they are good enough we're gonna be waiting a long long long time. How do you get to a test standard when you aren't even allowed to play a game that lasts 5 days!?
I'm all for protecting the sanctity of test cricket, but surely there is middle ground here? Why not a two tier system?
Put Ireland and the best of the other associate members (Afghanistan ATM) in a second tier along with Bangladesh (who, let's face it, have been whipping boys since they got Test status) and Zimbabwe. Let them play 'tier 2 tests' against each other. That way the snobs can say they "aren't proper tests" but the countries still get the experience of playing five day games and in the unlikely event any of the bigger nations wants to play them, happy days!
An alternative would be to allow the bigger sides to play their "A" teams in those matches and let fringe players experience five day cricket.

Will this ever happen? Will it ****! The dinosaurs that run cricket will continue to patronise the smaller nations and encourage them, whilst giving them no chance of Test status and eventually the smaller countries will give up. End result, cricket loses out.
