Storm in a teecup.

Broad is not a cheat any more than any professional sportsman in any sport is by playing to the ref not the opponents or the crowd. As an ex-pro rugby player I was drilled to listen for the refs whistle and nothing else when it came to game decisions, I assume with cricket it is no different now, if the umpire doesn't raise his finger you're not out, simple as.

No matter what anyone says 99 players out of 100 would have stood their groud, both because they are top flight pro's who hate to lose but in the context of a match turning innings in an ashes match.... Come on who would really have walked? And before anyone says Gilgrist, that was one time (at band camp...) it is not a trend just a solitary individual decision.

As for broad, he will not be remembered as a cheat, when the next big headline roles around it will all be forgotten and Broad will play for another 6+ years and at the end all people will remember is a cracking blower who could play a good knock when needed.

^^^ pretty much what Matt says

In an ideal world he would have walked but don't blame him for standing his ground. These things tend to fly both ways and I think Trott was very unlucky with his dismissal so they probably even themselves out

Sorry, just catching this thread now, been off the boards for a while.

Great test match from a neutral's point of view. Both sides had it won and both sides looked like they'd bucked it away. Fair play to Agar/Elgar whatever the **** his name was. He's no number 11, but that was a quality knock from any batsman.

As for Stuart Broad. IMO, he should have walked. Yeah, it's the umpires job to give him out, but that was blatant. Saying that in his position, would I have walked.....I dunno. You only get a split second to think it through.

Ohh and I'm struggling to remember many Aussies ever walking, bar Adam Gilchrist. Although, TBF most of their grief is being hurled at the umpire for missing it. Auld Pup deserves a bit of stick for wasting his two reviews mind!

ive never seen any aussies walk when theyve feathered a knick! dont see what the fuss is about

Agree completely with Chris!?

What is all the fuss about. Name me a member of either team who would walk in that situation? Until the finger has gone up you aren't out!

That was a cracking opening game, really thought Australia were going to do it but in came Jimmy, what a talent and still only 30! He's been around for ever!!!

Don't think Broadwater will dirty his reputation and will all blow over. All players are taught to play to the whistle and that is what he has done. It's very rare in any sport for the sportsperson to stop play or take a decision into their own hands if the officials haven't picked up on it. Although they do in snooker when they touch the cue ball but then snooker is a gentlemens game :D

Looking forward to tomorrow and the aussies have a good record at Lords so game on :)

What to say, what to say.... :)

Not even enforcing the follow on - who saw this happening at 11am this morning?

:? I can bowl better than that kerrigan! real buffet bowling! nice action mind, but i cant see him playing again. i dont know what they were doing picking 2 weak bowlers for the final test, i mean you wanna win 4-0 get the edge going into the winter series! this game is lost now.....

I can understand giving a few 'fringe' players a run out. But WTF has Tremlet done? Surely, he was next in line, given Onions and Finn are both injured (along with Bresnan)? Woakes did ok, but that was all. He's an "ok" bowling all rounder. Nothing more. He won't get another test call up anytime soon.

As for Kerrigan. That made NO sense at all. Clearly Monty is being punished for being caught pissing in public. Although, apparently he's going through a messy divorce so slightly mitigating circumstances I'd say. Plus I do believe a few England players pissed on the square after the final test. They gonna be dropped?

Do England not have better spin options than Kerrigan, even if you won't pick Monty? Assuming they have, sensibly given up on the fat **** Patel, what's wrong with Tredwell? Or hell, let Joe Root bowl more and pick a batsman. Root didn't exactly look terrible when he did bowl, plus he picked up a top order wickets. Not like he was gonna need to bowl 30 overs in an innings either with Swanny also in the team.
Very strange.

By all means, play the squad/fringe players. But why in the name of ****, pick two boys from three quarters of the way down the pecking order? Why not go for Geoffrey Boycott's mum!? Lol

Bump for the ashes!

Any predos?

I say 2-2

Can't wait, am only going to listen to the first hour though as I have an early rise  But should be able to catch the close of play :)

1-2 England :D

Tough one to call.

I think the Aussies were a little hard done by in the summer with the weather affecting the results. And they are defo pumped for this series. Going to be close one.

I'll go with a draw and that will see the Urn return home.

Bit late to this thread. I was expecting it to be a lot closer this time. But if the Aussies continue to bat like that......
Still, hard to say what the wicket is really like until we see England bat on it.

I'm just glad to have a bit of cricket back, now if only we could the Aussies to play it at a time when I could actually watch it!

If we bat like that we wont win **** all

 went to bed feeling pretty confident and then I woke up and turned the radio on to hear that Australia were batting

Still its a bit of an English custom to play shite in the first innings of an away test

that batting collapse reminded me of the mid/late 90s england cricket team! at least carberry dug in for a bit

predicting 2-2 for the series

That's two pathetic batting displays. You've no chance of winning any test match if you can't score 200 in an innings.
