congratulations chelsea

Hurting as a Spurs fan but also strangely proud of Chelsea and completely chuffed for DiMatteo. What a legend.

Was weird. Ended up supporting chelsea even though cant stand terry and cole. The way they won it with so little of the ball riding their luck with penalty misses etc was compulsive viewing. First man u now chelsea robbing bayern in CL finals.

Just got back from the pub, what a relief it was having Drogba step up to take the final penalty (as opposed to Terry last time we were in that position)...

Over the moon about winning but what is Roman going to do now he has achieved his goal?

sorry but as a liverpool fan i would have prefered utd to be lifting it simply because chelsea and city have chucked millions at being successful .when us utd and arsenal have dominated its cause of good management and all the money in football today is really turning me of the game .i honestly at the moment have no interest in the euros as it just gonna be overpayed english players doing shite against shite teams .footballs a working mans sport that being ruined and i really gutted that bayern didnt win tonight and roman ****ed off back to russia

We should just rename this section. "Football and other threads related to football, with a little bit of football thrown in on the side, with just a twist of football....and other off topic threads"" :?

Some Game alright, as a neutral thought it was a great to watch, I just got back in from pub after watching the Heiniken Cup rugby final in time for the extra time and penalties..... :D

me and a few mates were watching it at mine last night ,for laugh and cause i cant stand drogba as he stepped up i turned telly of ,my telly takes a few seconds to turn back on .so we missed pen .i was shocked how pissed they were as non support chelsea .i thought it was funny 8)

Jabba, as a Liverpool fan I would rather see the Harold Shipman, Pol pot, mass murders select eleven win the CL than Utd!

I have never and will never cheer for them!

I don't particularly like Chelsea, for the obvious reasons, their cunty players ( Terry, Cole, Drogba), the way they have "bought" success and their classless heirarchy, but as soon as Robben missed the penalty in ET you knew it was Chelsea's night.

Fair play. Sometimes it's just got your name on it. Utd in 99, Liverpool in 05 and now Chelsea in 12. Gutting for Spurs fans though. I'd rather have seen them in the CL than Chelsea.

You know in all seriousness, it wouldn't be a bad idea to start a new section called "Sport Talk" or something. 5 of the top 9 threads in "Off Topic" are football related. It must be pretty boring for the foreigners and non football fans.
And just wait till the European Championships start!!

You have got to take Man U of that list, their initial push for their first title with Ferguson was bolstered with heavy investment. Arsenal are the only team in recent years to get success on a smaller budget but even then look at the world class players they had in their 'invincibles' team, the only real bargain was Henry, these days they play on a smaller budget and look how much success they have, none.

When Liverpool dominated it was a different era (25 years ago) so fair play to them, but they had more financial clout than the clubs around them at the time. Again these day's how much succes have Liverpool had?

Don't forget that Chelsea finished second in the premiership the season before Roman took over, we where on the up using millions like everyone else (good directorship, investment and brand development) before we where given billions :D as opposed to Man City who where plucked from near obscurity to win the Premiership.

Football has become what it is because of the fans as well as the business man, if you subscribe to Sky Sports, watch the Premiership and buy the shirts you are contributing to the 'downfall' of the game (that's not aimed at you Jabba :) ). Football is/was a working mans sport and its current image is a reflection of larger problems in society (poor supporting the rich etc) and will only get worse.

Like it or loathe it you can't win big without investment these day's, if Liverpool where in a similar situation would you stop supporting them? Probably not, and unless they where playing Chelsea in the Champions League final I would be cheering them on, as I did in Istanbul  rather than knocking them.

It reminds me of U grading, the buyers are as responsible as the sellers.

(Sorry if that got a bit long winded) Maybe we could settle it with a game of Sensible Soccer :D

Edited to say: I agree with you about the Euro's, overplayed English playings not showing enough skill, trust in one another and looking lethargic bowing out early again. I will be watching though.

Tis. Never followed it. Thought it finished the other day. Turns out something else finished up today. When does it end? :?

Never. The European Championsships start in June. Finish in July and then the new Premier league season starts in August. :D Can't wait.

Fair enough Jabba, wasn't digging you out to much, just there is always someone moaning about the effect of money on football. Its like moaning about having a bad summer in England, its unavoidable

Nice to see you putting interest in a local club, they will need your cash and support :D But the trouble is if they do well, get promoted and make it to the top flight (top 3 maybe), they will become what Chelsea and Man City are to you now.

By the way Euro '96 shirt, is that vintage now?

euro 96 was mint we had a bq at a mates dragged tv in to back yard all neighbours and people just passing stopped to watch and everyone fetched a full case of lager ,we opened em and stacked em all on kitchen work top and took a pic of us all in front of it sadly dont know what happened to it.and when it went to pens against spain the kid sat next to me had to tell me what was happening cause i couldnt see tv i was that wasted .all young ens were sneaking up stairs for a cheeky smoke when some of older neighbours came up and said wtf going of.then said you better start sharing .it was crazy we were sat in yard with decent older members of village getting stoned and pissed in sunshine watching england doing well .then we played germany .....the good times just had to end
as for rovers top 3 ha not in my life time i just wished i new more when i was about 7 and not just liverpool liverpool as i would have pick rovers then but as they say you pick your team and stick to it

Think you're putting too rosey a tint on that. If Abramovic hadn't come along Chelsea would have been in the same mess Leeds were in and that Pompey are in now. When he took over they were a financial basket case, it's pretty well documented that not only has his money allowed them to go out and buy a lot of great players (and managers) but it also saved them from financial ruin.

PS, Yeah, 99.9% of fans who slag Chelsea off for having "bought" their success are only jealous that it wasn't their club that was bought over by a random billionaire. Though given Liverpool's luck with foreign owners, if Abramovic had bought them he would have turned into the new Robert Maxwell, or Bernie Madoff
