Collecting taken a little too far....

I was asked for hi-res images of mine also and declined, as it has scratches being
an original and is mounted in perspex. Plus I had no scanner at the time.

I was a bit dismayed seeing copies of the Palitoy window stciker being sold on ebay so
shortly after I had forked out a tidy sum for 1 of 3 known examples of it at CE.

I don't blame you at all for being dismayed Jason, which kind of goes back to the point I was trying to make, that when it happens to you with something you own, it's a real kick in the nuts.

Where did Darth's post go? I was just about to reply?

Nick and I go a way back and have even worked together at my previous job.
In a nutshell, Nick was asking for high res images post CE of both the sticker and some of the pages of some of the trade catalogues.

Whilst Nick created the cling based on images and did alter the font and size, would those who don't have an original to compare with know the font or size is wrong?

It's a very sticky point, of which I did highlight back when he first showed me and offered me one of which I declined. Nonetheless, he did post and offer a few for sale, but it also attracted the attention and criticism I warned him of.

However if you are looking for one, I may know of one that is for sale.
Dave.

Yes I deleted it before anyone replied. I just thought my post sounded a little supportive of Nick when that wasn't really the case.

Anyways my acetate won't be appearing anywhere other than my own cabinet although Nick obviously sold a couple of other examples on ebay which can't be accounted for. I recall asking Jason for a scan a while back which probably was unfair of me but then my intentions were obviously very different to what Nick had in mind.

and yes I could be interested  pm sent

I agree with Bollux (god, that's not something I can say very often). It is a shame that people are reluctant to showcase some of their rarer items for fear of them being ripped off. By that I mean images of them on a public forum rather than detailed scans etc, that's a different kettle of fish.

It's always nice to see the rarer items other people have, because most of the time I had no idea those items existed and also because it's interesting to see some of the items that people have acquired especially those with specific character focus's/Foci!

BUT taking detailed scans etc and producing copies which you then sell is plain wrong. Were it to happen to me I would be livid and I can understand Dave's feelings. It's just a shame that actions of a few mean the many have to suffer, but I guess that's true for more than just SW collecting.

Aside from being copied another issue over showing items is that you can get bombarded with PMs from people trying to buy the item off you. Sometimes these get borderline harassment.

Are we talking about RS again Andy?
I can't see too many on here getting that excited about it.

This goeS to prove that a majority of the members over there are twats! All this paranoia over repros and other peoples collections is why I despise most of those "Nerds". This is what gives collecting star wars a bad name. I think Nick is one of the better customizers out there and I am sure that makes some people jealous. So what If he makes a copy of a rare item....I mean we all have collections that I am sure have rare things in them but the bottom line is none of us owns the trademarks to those items...so as far as I am concerned they are fair game. If all of those cunts over on RS are all seasoned collectors as they state, then spotting a repro of any vintage item should be no problem and as far as their statements to being concerned with other collectors being duped...they could care less about other collectors as is shown in their overall rudeness and opppression of other collectors opinions. **** RS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say I haven't had too much trouble with that. On RS though I have been asked if I have Palitoys for sale for which a cardback has yet to be found

That is the other half of why I don't post pictures really now. Ironically a lot of them were about a piece I let get casted.

I agree that the trademarks and right to distribute are not owned by anyone, but there is a difference offing a piece to someone to make a copy of in good faith and then find them selling it. It not an RS thing, not a UK thing or anything, it's just a loss of trust.

Wasn't wanting this to become another Nick bashing thread or an RS bashing thread, I just wanted to offer a perspective that some of the posters here had not had the experience of (and hopefully never will either).

Dave.

I agree that If something has been given to him he should abide by that persons wishes. I just really dont agree with some of The RS philosophy that they whine about copies and repros becuase they are looking out for the collecting community, as they are only out for themselves and could careless about anything else.

You display a scary amount of knowledge of the terms used by gay people and then say I would touch people's balls!?
