This goeS to prove that a majority of the members over there are twats! All this paranoia over repros and other peoples collections is why I despise most of those "Nerds". This is what gives collecting star wars a bad name. I think Nick is one of the better customizers out there and I am sure that makes some people jealous. So what If he makes a copy of a rare item....I mean we all have collections that I am sure have rare things in them but the bottom line is none of us owns the trademarks to those items...so as far as I am concerned they are fair game. If all of those cunts over on RS are all seasoned collectors as they state, then spotting a repro of any vintage item should be no problem and as far as their statements to being concerned with other collectors being duped...they could care less about other collectors as is shown in their overall rudeness and opppression of other collectors opinions. **** RS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this because you are banned from there? Nik is a great customizer but he has done some really dodgy stuff and more than once !It is understandable the gripes they have with him IMO ,I would be pissed as well if it had happened to me!Dont you understand that the seasoned collectors can spot the fakes its the people who cant end up getting duped by dodgy items!

That is a ****ed attitude buddy!!

And that is fine but if it is "go ahead people make repros and sell em ,dupe the innocent who know no better" that is what hurts this hobby IMO more than a few feelings getting hurt when given abrupt answers to stupid questions or stupid remarks!

lol

josh - i dont think TFB is endorsing ripping off people with fakes - he was saying about nics customs and that really how can people complain if they dont own the copyright for the items he has cast.

i dont know the whole story as i cant be assed to read the RS thread - but thats all i think TFB is getting at -

if he doesnt like the guys there its upto him too

People collect what they can afford and for some people that includes using repro weapons with their figures. Ultimately it is what you want in your collection. I feel there is room for repros in the hobby and I do not find any of it stupid. Everyone is entitled to their opinion...There are no stupid questions or opinions...Only Stupid people.

Yeah O.k but making copies isnt good IMO especially if they are done to make a profit!Alot of those guys were happy for Nik to make copies for his own collection but when he was caught out trying to sell them that is when the **** hit the fan between them!

TFB I apologise if it felt like an attack on your character in general I just disagree with that statement thats all which is my opinion!

And I agree some of those guys come across as know it all's but the fact of the matter is they do know alot more about the hobby than most of us,because they have taken the time to do the research!Which is alot more than some are willing to do before they start asking stupid questions!

I thought Jo Y was a bit of a nerd at first ,turns out he owns 2 body piercing studios and is a gothic DJ!Hardly your average nerd keyboard basher IMO!Some of those guys have spent serious money on there collections over the years and have done alot to make us all aware of things we would not even know about if it wasnt for there time spent researching and writing articles etc.!Are they the be all and end all of knowledge on this hobby? NO they are not but they do know a hell of a lot more than the average collector that is for sure!

Again I apologise if you felt I was attacking your character in general TFB!

Your last post came in whilst I was typing this one and your right not everyone can afford real weapons, its when stooges sell them as the real thing instead of listing them as repros in there auctions is what pisses people off!

I have been collecting for over 20 years and I do not need the help of those guys whatsoever...They are stuck on themselves and Yes it is my opinion and we will leave it at that. I understand now that Nic misused somethings he obtained from others and shame on Nic for doing that. I respect everyones opinion on here and we are free to express them on this forum unlike the RS forum....Where the upper majority rules.

Christ on a bike, that's twenty minutes I'll never get back. That whole thread makes for very unpleasant reading, and just made me realise why I joined THIS forum, not RS.

lol - I was thinking exactly the same thing - gothic dj

The problem with forum posting is that it can sometimes betray a persons real character. People can more confident and abrasive on a forum than they would be in reality. I have not met any of the guys from RS in person but I would be surprised if most are not really good blokes. However, some of them can come across as know-it-all plonkers all too frequently, at least in writing.

My wife works for a US based company and she finds that email tone is often very different between the US and UK as well. This is not always the case but it does occur and I can see how some of the RS crowd rub people up the wrong way.

I reckon theres scope for a dissertation somewhere in all this

Like TFB said there is no such thing as a stupid question, do you mean to say that just because people know more than someone else they are more important and that they shouldnt impart that information?

If thats the case then my job would be a lot easier!

One way you learn is by asking questions!

LMAO well I am glad we cleared that up then!We are officially all nerds!!!!

Bollux I think if people are to lazy to do a little research first before asking a question that has a relatively simple answer to it then yes I would class that as a stupid question!

Its like a vinyl cape Jawa or DT sabre question on RS when there is a whole thread dedicated to it already clear as day at the top of the vintage collecting forum ,but some will still go ahead and ask instead of taking the time to go through the thread and no doubt find the answers they are looking for!

Questions are good but some people are just plain lazy and expect everything handed to them on a platter!Your a school teacher right Bollux I expect you dont do your students homework for them right!Sure when they come in the next day and they havent grasped what you where asking from them then you would explain !But you dont go heres your homework and heres the answers see yah tomorrow , they wouldnt be learning anything that way would they !
