Childhood memories

I reckon that if you are now aged 21 or under you are possibly the first generation ever to grow up in a time that is radically different from that of your parents.

I'm not convinced that the world is necessarily better or worse because of the internet and huge advancements in computer or mobile technology, but there's no going back. It's crazy.

Everything is right there. Just search in Google. Anything you like.

Agreed Barry

There are loads of positives, but many negatives.
The world is a busier place 24 7, you are always on the grid and it can get overbearing for oldies like me...... BUT...only if you let it

Lester Burnham: When I was your age, I flipped burgers all summer just to be able to buy an eight-track.
Ricky Fitts: That sucks.
Lester Burnham: No, actually it was great. All I did was party and get laid. I had my whole life ahead of me.

That was ****ing brilliant!!
"Michael Fish, you lying twat"

Sooooooooooooooo many memories

Great thread :D

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire

THE A TEAM !

All together now.....

No, i'm talking massively different. Yesterday I saw a young lad and a girl parked up, just sat there. But instead of talking or whatever (which used to be the convention) they were just sat still, staring at mobile phone screens. I said to my colleague "a sad sight reflecting these times" (always like to get a bit of Withnailism in  ).

I was only thinking the other day what life was like back in the early eighties when Star Wars was at it's peak.

3 TV channels (4 from 1982) and BBC 2 was crap!
If you had a Video Recorder you were rich!
Vinyl, cassettes only, no CD's yet
Landline phones only
Your car was considered posh if it had reverse lights, cloth seats, 5 gears and a rear wash wipe!
No reality TV or celebrity culture - now that was a bonus
Chav's didn't exist
No Premiereship - it was Division 1 to 4
No internet
Shops never opened on Sundays or where I lived a lot closed Wednesday afternoon too
Woollies was the only place to buy Pick n Mix
If you were off sick from school you ended up watching Schools programmes in the morning followed by Crown Court in the afternoons
No Store Cards, or BOGOF's, no gimmicks, all shop goods had price stickers from sticker guns, no Bar Codes.
You could buy a lot of sweets for 10p!!!!
And I'm sure Wagon Wheels were a lot bigger back then

Who needs an internet when you had a C64 :)

Anyone wishing to revisit this gaming era can find my sale of 3 Sinclair ZX Spectrums on Ebay with a bundle of classic games. 10% off.

The likes of Code Name Mat, Finders Keepers and Dragons Lair. :D

Never miss a chance for a sales plug. :D

One thing I don't miss from the 80's is the walkman which took 4 expensive batteries and lasted about 2 hours or 3 if you avoided using rewind and fast forward. Not quite as bad as Scalextric on sapping batteries.

EDIT :D

Scalextric on batteries? Eh? :?

Crown Court  That got turned straight over! Alright, the choice on TV was limited but there was always something better on than Crown Court.

Unfortunately my Mum used to like it and I had to endure watching it, didn't have much choice

C64 were the bollocks .get in from school, set game of , wait till tape got to 15 ish on counter , press space bar then go enjoy ye tea while it loaded lol............until technology evolved and you got......PLAY AND LOAD ....AWSOME

I had Spectrum 48K first before C64

Spectrum was more like......get in from school wait for game to load and wait.................wait.........still wait................................crashes while loading after waiting 20 minutes!!!, reload and wait..........................and wait.....................Mum yells - your dinner is ready, you reply yeah in a minute..................game still loading.......and wait..........Mum calls again (you ignore her)..........game still loading.............and wait............game crashes again!!!!

And yet we tolerated it :) black ops2 takes about 30 seconds to load on the ps3 and that now seems a long time.

Didn't Facebook and eBay go down last week and it made the news?

My nephew used to grunt impatiently when he had to wait more than 30 seconds on any of his ps3 games, so I hooked up my old 128k Spectrum and loaded up Jet Set Willy, still my fave Speccy game.
After the endless wait for it to load he was appalled, both from the wait and the game itself and of course it crashed soon after. He still can't believe that's what we had to put up with.
