Hey all,

After reading through the BSG thread (Hope you get that sorted bud as even on close inspection so hard to tell, aint your fault) I was wondering what is the best method to check for touch ups? And where would I get the equipment to check for touch ups.

Look forward to your replys.

Cheers!

Whats known as a Black lite, same thing used in a shop to check if you've given them a dodgy note.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought that Weasel had finally been caught with all those underage girls

most touch ups are blatantly obvious as there isnt a pen black or otherwise that can match the finish on a card, failing that and in the absence of a blacklight ( any shop selling disco equipment will have them for sale ) holding them under normal light should also show them up as any spread onto the non damaged parts of the card will usually show a slight pearlesent finish where the damage is, edge tough ups are also blatently obvious as the pen usually seeps into the card which will be easy to spot just by looking at the card edgeways on. ive had plenty of touched up mocs over the years some good touch ups others really poorly done, all have been relativly easy to spot and ive never needed a blacklight to find them.

Good thread bbud and thanks for your input.

Well I and the buyer failed to spot the ink touch-ups on the BSG, only came to light at UK graders.
I've easily spotted touch-ups in the past, they are usually obvious.

tilting the card into light usually shows up any ink as a brighter or darker patch, obviously inspect any edges and creases ect

I just wonder how many items there are out there that have been touched up.

I'd guess a lot Lee, which is pretty sad. Unfortunately in the early days nobody thought twice about inking edges on carded stuff to make it more presentable when they were selling, really irks me as I would prefer to have a little damage than ink all over the card. The early dealers of Vintage were by and large profiteering wankers (especially in light of the posts about repros in the 90's on RS)

Yeah and I bet alot fewer people cared when there were fewer people (or places like AFA/UKG) around to actually find the touch-ups. I mean, if you can't see it and you don't know about it then you've got nothing to be unhappy about. Until you realise you've been scammed many years later ...

I read that the thread on RS and I'm thinking some exaggeration went on regarding the values quoted. Of course it would have been relatively lucrative, but some of those figures just looked way too high - I mean, how many blue Luke Jedi LS can you actually sell? Was still disturbing though ...

I thought the same actually especially when he said they were selling repro Luke sabers for $20! I was tempted to ask how sure he was that the quote was accurate.

There was another incident on RS a few years ago with a seemingly disgruntled ex Australian dealer who came to the forum to tell the masses that ALL of the Toltoys VCJ's were fakes and that it was some elaborate scheme that loads of big wigs were part of. It was debunked but an awful lot of people saw the thread and it was certainly interesting to read.

Makes you wonder if these people are telling the truth or are just trying to get back at people in a hobby they were once a part of in order to cause a bit of panic!

The prices may have been an exaggeration....but the story is 100% true. The repros we see today were made by the thousands back in the 90's. Brians toys was one of the biggest sellers of these. You could buy a pack of 24 of them for around $15.00. This expanded to exact repros of weapons from the 12 inch line which most collectors of today are not even aware of. You think your 12 inch IG-88 has real weapons....belt..grenades??? Maybe....maybe not. This production of repros from the 90's has now started again from what I know....but now the sabers are molded in full color (not painted) and they are using the same exact concentrates and raw plastics to make these so they pass as real. I know the community hates repros...but it has come to the point where many of you probably have them in your collections and are not even aware....float tests...black lights and microscopes aside.
