I was wondering what you all thought about MOC's with a shaved "POP".

I'm not talking about it being cut out, so has no effect looking from the front.

The reason for asking is I hesitated over an expensive MOC last week that had a nicely shaved POP, the price reflected that (well it did in my opinion) but I didn't buy it in the end…but another collector snapped it up quickly.

Would it affect YOUR decision to buy if the price was right?

By how much would it affect the value/desirability of said MOC.

(Of course we are talking of higher end MOC's not the cheaper ones)

I love a pop removed/shaved MOC, as long as the price reflects the damage, and it's not butchered out half way up the card

Me too. A few years ago, I wouldn't have touched one or a reseal etc, but now I would definitely buy one. If it looks good, that's enough for me. When I look at my display, there are MOCs mixed in with reseals etc and the difference is negligible. I sold my Palitoy DSD MOC last year for £2k and replaced it with a reseal I built for under £50. You'd be hard pressed to notice it's a reseal. The difference in price just isn't worth it IMHO and I probably get more pleasure from having such a great value reseal.

I've got a couple in my collection, while they can certainly display well from the front they are still "damaged" in my view so I would always be on the lookout for an upgrade. But if the price is right, say 75% of full value, I'd consider them for sure.

I probably get more pleasure from having such a great value reseal.
This resonates with me too, because I started collecting MOCs as a teenager and then student I was always on such a tight budget, it was all about getting something displayable for the absolute lowest I could, even if it meant waiting and passing up more expensive better condition alternatives (which with hindsight would now have been the better "investment.") But I do miss that frugility my collecting used to be centralised around, the buzz of getting a bargain. The problem with my collection now is the pieces I want are so rare I have to bend over when they come up for sale!

I put shaved POP MOC's in the same general category as reseals, which for me means that whilst a 'proper' MOC is the ideal, if a good quality shaved POP or reseal can be had for a fraction of the price and displays almost as well as a MOC, then for those of us without limitless funds, they're a great option.

If i wanted the moc and it had a shaved pop i would prob buy it. Dosen't really bother me tbh.

Shaved POP bothers me quite a lot and I'd probably never buy a MOC with one. I totally see why people don't share that view and you can get some lovely examples for a big discount with a shaven POP!!

Thanks for your response, interesting…I'm kicking myself now for not buying it…oh well there will always be another one.🤔

A shaven POP is not for me. I can totally understand why people like them due to the price reduction and the fact they are still a MOC which displays nicely. A shaven POP for me is better than a reseal cos the figure remains factory sealed.
