Can i just ask your opinion on repro items?

single weapons in excess of £5 - 10 for example.

Is that really so bad though? You can pick up the vast majority of vintage figures for under £10 complete with original weapons, and most new toys these days cost more than that. They cost about £2 to start with, so the price going up 250-500% over nearly 40 years is only really in line with inflation. There are literally MILLIONS of these things out there, you just need to be patient.

Trust me, if the main reason you're buying repros is because you want them NOW (Veruca Salt style  ) you will 100% regret it in future. As said the most rewarding thing about this hobby is the hunt. We've all been there and done it, I bought all kinds of shite when I first started out (I had quite a few MOCs with badly cracked bubbles fixed with sellotape!)

it is indeed the hunt that i thrive on ive been searching for a loose farmboy saber and palace blaster for about 12 months now for a cheap price and i will continue to do so! i will never buy repro! repro confuses the hobby especially for people starting out, and repro is getting better and better all the time and being flogged as original which is criminal

Get the real deal. It's not a race- enjoy the hunt.

I love that quote - wait no it's my wife that loves that quote and constantly reminds me that I don't have to buy that figure/ship/vehicle/weapon this month as they'll all still be available we can afford them.

Joking apart when I first got back into vintage collecting I could have easily talked myself into buying things I couldn't afford, worried that the thing I wanted might not come up again, that's the beauty of places like this and passionate collectors - a MOC will still be a MOC in 20 years time. No rush, just enjoy the collecting and the memories - enjoy your own collection and don't ever try and keep up with someone else, that's not what Star Wars is about :)

Looks like it's just me then. As for 'when i die' the entire collection is being buried with me!

Someone posted about recards on this thread and i found that interesting. I would be more likely to recard figures on genuine backings than pay full wack for the rarer items. Is that possible?

...and don't forget the part where you DIE and now someone else has to figure out what is real and what isn't within your collection.
il haunt the ****ers who buy my collection!

i will never buy repro!
i tell lies, but i would never buy repro now, i suppose you become more of a purist as the years go by as you collect, but when i first started collecting back in late 90's repros were an easy cheap option too complete my loose run, most were original! but the likes of imperial gunner weapon black palace blaster etc were expensive too buy and get hold off so i got repro. but when i finnished my loose run a few years back i then decided to upgrade all my repro to original it took me ages  !

I have a few repro weapons through ignorant purchasing years ago, don't display with them though. I found them all a while ago after becoming more educated in spotting them and taking a different stance on them, before this I would have displayed them, maybe even purchased them by choice.

Now its a repro free zone for me, and it will stay that way for my loose collection.

I just started collecting around may of last year and I always try to buy my loose figures complete with accessory. If not then I will buy the figure and hunt for the accessory. I'm on a super tight budget, but what I do is every week I put aside some money for collecting even trade with people. I don't respect repro because its getting mixed in and people are getting jerked from dishonest sellers. I got jerked not so long ago by a seller, I bought two stormtroopers complete with weapons and lucky for me there's a site like imperial gunnery to show you how to tell real from fake with a float test. I did it and they went straight to the bottom, I threw that crap in the garbage! Everybody has their own opinion but please don't support repros please because it's not doing any good to our collecting community.

Sorry for rambling lol

I think that June's point about supporting repro is a good one

While there is a market for these items then they will continue to be made. The vast numbers of these being sold as genuine on Ebay is bad for the hobby and will put people of collecting

If Ebay didn't exist there would be no virtually no repro market and collecting would be more fun in my opinion. Really not that keen these days. Except for sites like this it's all bid bid bid. Does my head in.

Repros were around long before ebay. Brians toys back in the early 90's used to sell packs of them thru their catalog and Toyshop ad's.

Prior to that...they were made of metal....although you could spot these dead on.

i did not know that :?

i never came across anythng that i thought was fake while collecting back in the early 90's except a sus vinyl cape Jawa, but that's the easiest forge ever

Custom Repro's that are seen readily on ebay I don't have a problem with - they are in no way trying to replicate an original vintage figure or cardback, I don't have any personally but understand people like to collect one or two of these as a fun factor to their collection.

Repro's of original vintage MOC's

Even if your budget is tight you can get a reseal or a battered moc, surely that is more satisfying to genuine collector than a fake :?
