it gets put in the for sale section with the wrong title, i mention that i would take it if another forum member can assure me its not a toni, the seller then changes the title, i tell him i still want it but want another forum member to confirm its real and then he tells me its been sold now???

bit of bad form from this forum

when i sold all my vehicles and playsets last year i made sure it was given to the first inline, is that not how it normally works?

It is indeed.

If someone says "interested in X pm sent", then they should be dealt with first. If another member offers more BEFORE a deal is sealed then common courtesy would suggest that renegotiations begin with the first interested party.

It's happened to me twice where I've said I'm interested in X and Y. Then further down the thread you see others saying interested in X, Y and Z and they end up with all of the items. I don't deal with the sellers again.

Always sucks. Lost out on a sweet ESB Vader last week after we agreed the sale. Seller had an offer for all his items and decided go with that deal instead.

Makes you feel like this guy.....

Why would you ask if its a Toni when its a Kenner card??? Also the card has fading, and someone else asked if it was legit because of that???

Bad form of it was sold beneath you though.

i asked because 1) im not that clued up on carded figures and 2) i very rarely see any luke x-wings pop up for sale or at that price so i thought maybe it was too good to be true.

Have you pm'd the seller? He's new to the forum so maybe cut him a bit of slack, it's not pleasant to have a deal pulled from under you but he'll probably appreciate a gentle nudge re forum selling rules.

Thats fair enough mate, it was 100% legit though:)

I think i may know someone who has one for sale. Ill contact him for you today :)

I think most of us have had this done to us in the past, so we all know how it feels. The seller is new to the forum and maybe didn't understand the selling 'etiquette' which we use. However in saying that they should remain innocent until proven otherwise.

Looking at the FS thread....

The FS thread was posted at 8:44 pm, with a first response at 8:55 pm and your message at 9:05 pm.

A lot of the time people PM directly rather then spending time replying to the thread, maybe it's just a case of the person who posted 10 minutes before you got it, or somebody PM'ed him direct before your post?

So maybe it was just a case of bad luck?

If a regular maybe the buyer could clear this up, and if Pizza has been wronged could do the honourable thing and stand aside or pass it on. Give the newby seller the benefit of the doubt as he's already done a nice thing of actually selling to us collectors instead of running to Ebay after finding out prices.

Hi guys - looks like I may have caused the confusion here - I didn't see the sales thread but did email the seller after the valuation thread was updated - I'd also been talking to him about the DSD (obviously)

I appreciate that it looks like Pizza got shafted but it's not the case

so you had first dibs on the dsd, thats fair enough.

i dont see why the seller was in talks with me, adjusting the thread after i said i would take it and then all of a sudden tell me its then sold, surely he would of said it was already gone straight off?

i give up sometimes

Sorry mate, I wasn't aware that he'd messaged you saying it was yours - 100% honestly I didn't see the sales thread (or the price)

ok just to clear things up.

i said i would take it in the thread and not via pm, then the thread title was adjusted with the correct item, then minutes later im pm'ed told its sold sorry.

it went for a higher price than the seller had listed it for which kind of explains it.

im partly to blame to be fair and the seller is a new member so thats fair enough.

i dont relly collect carded stuff but i thought it would alaways be nice to have something on a star wars card for a reasonable price.

I'm not sure what the price was in the FS thread but if it was for the £100 to £120 in the valuation thread that's really low for that item so hopefully he got more than that

The first PM thing is the one thing that slightly concerns me with selling things here. Not that it would put me off in any way but I think I'd probably say that more long term members should get first shout at an item just so as not to have one time posters picking something up to flip.

I've been on here long enough now to know who's in it for the long haul and although I know that there are plenty of new members who stick around after their first few posts I really would only want my items to go to other collectors who would get something at a fair price and appreciate it. Sorry if this wasn't really the thread to write this but it's been on my mind for a while now as after reading some people's recent ebay experiences it puts me off of going down that route.

Now I just need to actually sell something!

I understand what you are saying but we are all new once. When I first came to the forum it was to buy, plus there are a few silent collectors on here. If I wasn't able to buy because of an inner circle type mentality I would have been off.

It just happened to be the banter that caused me to start posting. ;)

Remember, we don't want to turn in to the other site.

Ps got your message. I will get the mrs to do some detailed pics of the Jawa coo, she has a proper camera and knows how it works, and be in touch soon.

Mr-shifter is right here. I don't think you can have different standards for people who've been members for different times. As he said, we were all new once.

You can offer something for sale via the network of mates you've built up over the years by all means if you want a long-timer to have it, everyone would do that.

But the minute the item comes up in a For Sale thread then it's a free-for-all. First PM offering the proper price should get it. Make on offer with conditions and you run the risk of someone swiping it at the full price. Unfortunately, someone might even offer more than the full price to get it and then the seller's ethics are out in the open.

But I think it works fine now. Just my 2p's worth

It's a fair point and I expected most people to feel like this but thought I'd just put across my concerns.

The end of the day I'll probably first contact anyone I know who's after something I have, not to create some sort of strange inner circle but more to help a fellow member out with something they've been on the hunt for for a while. If it's something that I'm happy to just put out there I'll offer it up at a realistic price which will be better than ebay but not so low that someone will just want it to flip.

My main concern has always been getting items to the right people who aren't out for a quick buck. I follow ebay pretty closely and I've seen members here snap things up and then put them on ebay the next week. I know this is just business and people also do this to get enough money together for something they really want but it's not something I agree with on a forum like this, just my personal opinion. I also want to point out that it is only a few members over the years that I've seen this buying to sale attitude and I certainly wouldn't want to tar everyone with the same brush as I know most on here are collectors.

Look forward to seeing the VCJ COO and thanks in advance for sorting it out. It's going to take a little while to put a thread up on my findings but I'll get there in the end.
