Here's a weird tale. Last night I put up two items for sale in Echo Base, a loose Ben and loose Luke.

Someone PMs me about the Luke and buys it. He then asks to buy the Ben as well. I check my PMs and for any replies to my separate Ben sale. Nothing. So I say fine.

Another member then posts some interest in the Ben. I tell him it's already sold. He gives me **** saying that any sale must be from the first follow up posted against the item. I try to explain it was sold before he, or anyone else, posted interest.

Then amazingly he runs to the admins of the group and I'm banned permanently!!

WTF?

Hey - it was me who bought the figures from you (and a load of others at the same time).

I just saw it all kicked off this morning - sorry you got a ban over it!

Not your fault in the slightest. Just next time you buy in Echo Base, you must post up your interest in every figure you buy apprently or the seller will get banned. :?

I've seen this rule on some forums, you must 'declare interest' in the thread before contact, and the thread order is the priority. Annoying but ultimately it's their page so they can do what they like.

I get it, and to be honest probably agree with it generally (not the ban, the declaring interest thing) - just when some smart arse comes along and wants to buy a load it obviously falls through the cracks a bit. I'd say that was the exception rather than the norm though in sales.

The figure was sold before interest was 'declared'. As he then 'declared interest' I think he expected me to reverse the sale. And the Admins agreed.

Yep that's exactly how it works on the forum I'm talking about, regardless of when interest is declared the thread is the priority order so you would have had to refund the original buyer. They are super-anal about it, so much so that even saying 'pm sent' is banned because it is apparently too vague

Agree the ban is harsh though!

Well Echo Base's loss is SWFUKs gain. I have been quite the supporter of Facebook groups, especially Echo Base, but I'm going to be only waving the forum flag from now on.

That does seem daft. I see the logic in the rule, but it's a tad flawed, and the ban is the definition of OTT

Harsh to say the least, you would think at the very least a polite explanation of rules would have sufficed. The power trip some admin on these groups are on is laughable. Their loss fuzzy!

I've been on Facebook for approx 1 year and I've officially had enough. I initially thought it would a good place to catch up with friends I don't see very often which at first was good, I even started a Toltoys group to compliment the other SW themed groups out there but I quickly discovered that unlike forums instead of reading what you like you are slammed daily with totally irrelevant mundane reports of life's daily activities of which I have zero interest. That coupled with others thoughts on pretty much anything political or social was doing my head in so I'm done. I've turned off all notifications and I'll use it for business purposes and that's about it.

I couldnt tell you the number of times I have PMd for an item on a forum or on Echo Base and other Facebook groups, where there is zero interest declared to be told 'sorry, its already sold mate'. Each time I barely blinked.

The prcoess of 'declaring interest' meaning I must sell to them is massiely flawed for loads of reasons...

1. What if the person who declares interest then offers you a lower amount than the item is listed for. Do I still have to sale to them?
2. What if you have had trouble with the buyer before and they declare interest? Is it not my choice as a seller if I wish to sell to them?
3. What, as in my case, the buyer wants to buy multiple items. Do they then need to go to each sales thread and type 'pm sent', or whatever, first? Like a dog pissing on them!
4. What if the buyer does not want to be identified? For more top end items this happens alot.

I could go on...and usually do

The total ban seems very harsh over a couple of common loose figures?

At the very most they should have given you a warning (please don't do it again, or) but to outright ban you is just stupid! Shame on them - total loss of respect.

I honestly had no idea that the person who first posts 'pmed', even if the item is already sold, has the right to buy the item. Likesay, I pmed and lost out countless times.

But as Edd says, rules are rules.

I saw this unfold & although I think the rule is a good idea in principle it is flawed. Especially in a situation like yours where you were talking to someone via PM already.
The admin are saying your were banned for threatening an admin but the way that certain admin speaks to people is wrong & certainly rubs people up the wrong way.
I agree with you Jamie, surely a seller can decide who they want to sell an item to?

Here is what Wayne Totty wrote on the Echo Base facebook page:

Evening guys, I know a few of you will be wondering about what happened tonight with Jamie.
Jamie sold an item, not following the rule of selling to the first person who comments, it's a new rule and it's really not a big issue so I inboxed Jamie to explain the rule. Upon doing this Jamie started ignoring me. Next thing he decides to post my messages on the group (if you read them, then you would agree my messages where very fair and only meant to let him know the rule). I feel that posting both mine and another members private messages on the group was a little out of order really. Then he begins to start a debate over it.
As for the debate, yes I understand what you guys are saying about him selling them to another guy during a purchase of another figure, but, why couldn't he say this on private message? Why didn't he mark the item as sold if it was 'ages' before the comments.
I politely messaged him again to explain that I felt he was a little out of order putting our conversations in the public, to which I received a pretty serious threat. Clearly threatening behaviour will not be tolerated and I hope that you guys can understand that.
I know rules can be tricky, but, they are here for fairness and for the protection of our 1200+ members.
There was never a need for the situation to escalate as it did tonight. Jamie would certainly still be a member if he had refrained from his threatening behaviour.
I hope we have your backing on this matter. Cheers guys.

Anyway, if that's their rules, maybe be glad your banned, you don't have to worry about it anymore.
At least here on the forums you can do your business properly without all the drama.

Lol, threating? Anyone who has met me would know this is a joke.

He did messaage me alot and I did ignore them having already explained my position. I then realised that I had changed my Facebook profile pic so finally responded with 'do you know who I am?'

Maybe he thought this was a threat? As in I'm the mafia or something lol

BTW, this is just a snapshot of Waynes 'polite' messages

That sucks mate. First come first served is the general etiquette is it not? Not who posted what in what thread when. If someone messaged you first and said they want it then that's it. Don't get that at all, ultimately you can sell something to who you like. And to ban you? **** em :|

The rule is flawed. I've dealt with many people who do not want it known they are buying items. Regardless of value. PM sent alerts people to that fact that they are interested and therefore could have that item. But rules are rules and if that's what they want fair enough.

I'm more annoyed that the admins are not listening to the community. My point is that I can see the problem. but the solution is clearly flawed. Now two of the admins have questioned my.... I don't know... loyalty?..... to the group. Total bollocks. How many times have I met some of these guys and promoted it on the podcast. No more now.
I don't want to be part of any group or forum where members impose rules which can impact on how I do transactions without listening to the members who point out valid flaws that need discussed. And before anyone states RS on photos I don't really have an issue with it.
