brilliant painting ham, really looks great
The shadowing on the Peruvian guy is superb top marks Ham.
Grinchy everytime I scroll through this and see your horror stuff I **** myself a little bit as its so lifelike.
Been inpsired of late to paint again myself. Unfortunately all I seem to enjoy doing these days is painting more 'pop' inspired stuff old labels, packaging from my childhood. Probably due to my daytime job of being a designer I suppose and studying letterforms, logos etc. My only problem is I get so far into something and then become so critical I put my fist through the canvas, much to the disappointment of the Mrs. Oh well gives me something to do in the evening

Think of a subject way outside what you would normally paint, then have a pop at that, maybe that way you won't be so self critical, with preconceptions branded into your head

Looking back over some of my past work, this is still one of my favourite pieces, the lifesize ET, love the movie it still chokes me up every time and i'm not ashamed to say it,
and still one of my favourite monsters, tim curry as pennywise
and the frankly crappy gooffy shrunkenhead guy from beetlejuice
I'm being commisioned to sculpt a bust of tony todd as candyman from that movie, then i plan on making yoda, still my all time favourite creature jedi master

Yeah thats tim curry as pennywise from IT, a classic monster, ET i saw a lot of myself in Elliot as a kid, and yeah just a cool movie, beetlejuice, is a goofy movie, and it looks like its getting a sequel cool!

PC, thank you for the kind words and agree with Mike. Also the way I do my paintings is in my mind I know it will turn out how I want it too as I will not be beaten. I think I have had one piece which I simply painted over which did not have an end to the journey but then I know it was a rough idea and nothing solid so to speak.
Each painting is a journey and should be enjoyed and never a chore. If it isn't turning out how you wanted it to then simply ask yourself why and try to stay calm and patient. I hope the next goes well for you my friend. ~
Also never compare yourself to anyone else's work as your's is your own style and emotions going into it. I remember a next door neighbor showing me his art and I will always look at the positive in any piece I look at so stated what I liked about it. In return he would point out what HE thought was wrong with mine and what he would have done differently. lol, this just made me smile humbly inside as this just showed me a state of arrogance and insecurity within this man. My point is this did not affect myself at all as I was happy with the piece I had done and it turned out how I wanted it to look and not what others thought it should. This is the beauty of all art. It's all people's personal emotions telling a story from their own perspective in all shapes and sizes.
Practice always makes towards perfection so don't give up and definitely don't put your fist through anything, lol. ~

lol, I am nowhere near where I thought I would be when I was younger. For one I thought I would be tall. ~;D But, for sure, I am in a place I could have never imagined. ~
