Anyone here know anything about tropical fish?

Well

I got my fish tank from a few years back

Cleaned and prepared it thoroughly, all new filters.

Put the water in, added aqua safe treatment

Let it settle for about 2 weeks.

Got a very small batch of fish yesterday.

Now a lot of them are display signs of swim bladder problems. Two are already dead, and another 4 are displaying symptons.

Have I missed something....or have a I bought some dodgy fish?

Did you get the water tested at the fish shop?

They will normally test it for free.

Have you got live plants in the tank??

No I just followed exactly what i was told the first time I set the tank up, and that was fine.

No live plants at the moment

Not had it tested

Before you buy any more fish, just ask them to do a water test for you.
Take a little container of water down to the shop.

There are packs you can buy and you can regularly check the water, but I haven't bothered for years.

**** knows!!!!

lol, sorry mate but it could be a lot of things. You've done everything right....leaving the water for
two weeks to settle etc.

The water test will help

Gary,

I know enough to know to stay well clear of those bast*rds. Very tricky to them alive and very easy to kill em all.

2nd that.

I could even kill ****ing goldfish....I did when I was a kid cleaned them out with washing-up liquid and didn't rinse properly - they were blowing bubbles

A lot of tropical fish Gaz that are caught for the Aquarium trade especially from around SE Asia are done over with cyanide mate when they catch them (it makes it easier). The problem is they dont last long after they are caught most of the time, about a month I have been told. The poison ****s their insides up basically and it is only a matter of time before they are belly up :( . Bit of a read for yah

Also Chip on RS knows HEAPS about salt water tanks mate. Might be worth dropping him a PM sometime :)
