Anyone heard anything from UKG?

Honestly, I like UKG's service. I know grading isn't for everyone, but each to their own I guess - As long as you're happy with how your collection is displayed (There's no wrong or right way to collect). I've always found UKG to be prompt.

Can only be good news if they're busy. With UKG available for grading here I find the notion of Europeans sending to the states with all that customs palaver, cost and slow turn around a ludicrous decision :? .

What's the customs issue? You stick a customs form on when you send them your package, it's no issue for them as they don't have import duties into the States. They put a giant label on the box and call it returned goods which is import tax free on this side. I guess if the form fell off you'd have a problem, but otherwise you're all sorted aren't you? Worked for me when I've sent stuff.

Out of interest, can anyone hand deliver and receive items to/from UKG? Or is it just because people know them personally?

I filled in their online enquiry form two months ago. Didn't get a reply

Still Iikely to ask them to grade and regrade some items. Petrified to send the items over the pond.

A couple of years back Steve used to come on here quite frequently to answer any UKG questions, not seen him on the forum for a long time now though.

Only ever used them once myself, I had a piece cased/graded at the end of 2013. Steve was always quick to reply to emails and I had it back really quickly, couldn't fault them for customer service.

I would give them the benefit of the doubt and keep trying to make contact if you can guys, it does sound like they are just incredibly busy and are possibly prioritising certain orders over others? Everyone should still get a reply though..

Steve is happy to meet even if you don't know him. I'm just over an hr away and the drive is preferable to trusting the post. We meet in Morrisons car park :)

First time it felt very odd putting my Mocs in the boot of a stranger and handing over cash as well

Thanks a lot, that's good to know. Certainly less scary than taking it to the Post Office!

I met him in the Toby Carvery car park. Had already paid via PayPal but yeh it was funny putting some of my prized stuff into a strange car and watching it drive off
But hey! Steve came good :D

V nice fellow who has a lot of knowledge on a wide range of toy lines :!:

Cool, never had an issue before. I've had a couple items done before with great service and comms but this seems odd. I thought he'd be keen to grade a pre production coin and COA and display it I a typically nice UKG style. After a 3rd attempt I'll probably try something else. I don't have a great deal of spare time so I'm not going to waste it chasing. My emails were received as I got the standard, thanks for the email email.
I'm glad they are doing well but nothing excuses poor comms. I've always been a patriot and pusher of UKG but now I'm more meh about it.

As a new collector I have to admit I find grading quite an unusual concept!

I can understand for high value, rare pieces having independent verification of authenticity and condition for the purposes of sale, but not entirely got my head around the grading aspect of it.... Seems to me like there are a ton of bog standard 20 quid minty loose figures locked away in acrylic with an asking price of 100 quid, when it is pretty obvious what condition they are in to anyone with eyes!

Presumably graded items can themselves deteriorate and so require regrading over time in any case. Is there a time period a grading is considered valid for?

I'm not knocking their business because clearly a lot of people find it a valuable service, I'm just intrigued by it!

Very valid points jayums

A lot of folk seem to collect grades over actual figures. I don't really collect grades but as Steve is down the road getting an item graded for not much more than the cost of a lose case seems a good deal.

If I have something in mint condition it's nice to get the sticker saying it, and it does add value to the piece, but I wouldn't pay that premium in the first place.

Others hate grading and prefer to break Mocs out of cases - but there's enough room in the hobby for all of us
