Hi guys I was curious to know does anyone collect or know anything about pub arcade games?
Basically I am away for a few days and was chatting to a guy in a shop about old starwars items. He has just told me his mate has a pub arcade game hes thinking of selling it's one which you stand and play. He says it's one of the old Star Wars games. I know the description I have isn't much to go on. He has no idea if it is working or not.
If it was an 80s game is it worth chasing up? Working or not? Are they hard to fix if it is broken and would it be worth much?

When you say 'pub' arcade game I instantly think of those quiz games. If that's the case then it has limited value and they're fairly recent.

Now, if you're talking about 'arcade' machines, like Pac Man and Donkey Kong in the stand up cabinets, then that's a whole other story.

These are sought after, especially in good working order. They have fantastic artwork on the casing and they really look cool in the right setting.

Without details or pics it's impossible to value but it's certainly worth chasing up!

Good luck.

Yes from what I understand it's one of the games which you stand up and play like pac man and similar. He did speak about nice artwork on it. I will go backto the shop tomorrow or Saturday. I will try and get a picture of it if I can.
I'll never get it in the car boot

Could it be pinball?

My aim is to own the 90s SW pinball one day. A fantastic game - Death Star multiball! They normally go for around £2k

In the mid 80's my mate and I used to play the Return of the Jedi arcade game to death. It was brilliant, racing on speeder bikes dodging logs etc. The music on it was the bollocks too. I would give my left nut to just see one again let alone play it or own one.

I would definitely go and have a look at the machine in person if I were you and if it's an original SW arcade game I would try and buy it, working or not. They are fixable. If it's the Return of the Jedi one and you're not interested in it give us a shout as I may be. Cheers

I've recently been on a bit of a quest with my brother to track down some classic arcades. There was a big warehouse out near Acton with loads but they've recently closed. We also found a pub in pekham with a good selection but neither had any of the old star wars cabinets. They did have the trilogy game from the 90's though.

If he has an actual 80's star wars cabinet it will be worth a lot.

To be honest I couldn't even remember any of these games. But then I never got to play them much because I lived in the country so that makes sense.
Yes I am definitely going to try and push this guy for a look. I am in his area for another week so hopefully I have a chance. As I said it's his mates so hopefully he'll come good and I'll get a picture or a look at it. He did say he planned to get it Saturday for me because I seemed interested.
I hope his idea of old Star Wars isn't a game with Darth Maul or something
If anyone even got a chance to put up a few pictures of these games you used to play it would be great. He might want a decision when I arrive if I want it or not. That way at first glance I'll have an idea what to do.

Funnily enough, I've just traded my data east star wars pinball that I have had for the last twenty years. ... Also had an original Atari star wars and an indiana Jones at one
point.
Whilst awesome fun, they are a bit of a nightmare. They're huge, always breaking and a right cow to fix. The xy monitors atari used are in short supply and the power supplies are notorious for giving up the ghost. Now that motherboards are almost impossible to get, you'll need to be very conversant with electronics to keep on top of them, I have an engineering degree and they used to baffle me sometimes !! :)

Are they wonderful. ... yes.

Would I have one again. .............. no :)

Ok that's interesting to know I wouldn't have a clue how to fix it if broken. Hopefully he won't need a decision until I get a few pictures up here.

Ah - I haven't a mechanical or electrical bone in my body. Might give up on that one

There was a few Star Wars games in the 80's , the Return of the Jedi was stand up , first on the speeders , then in the falcon . Great game !!!

I still haven't got the pictures I left the the town on Wednesday where the guy worked in the shop. I have taken the guys ph no. and I am hoping he will send pictures. I do believe it's there he's just is a bit laid back about getting it. Maybe now because I had shown an interest he is checking it out for value himself first. Which is fair enough I suppose I would do the same. Hopefully he comes good and I get a few pictures. I would like to see what he has now even if he doesn't sell.

Original cockpit trench run game looks the mutts nuts. Saw one for £15k for sale online a few years ago. For me that is the ultimate SW arcade game. I think you need to be an electrical wizard to maintain them!

I've got one of the 1983 upright Starwars cabs that's been mentioned a few tims in this thread...had it about 4 years know and still plays spot on 8) ....the larger 'cockpit' versions are great but they are a massive beast of a cab and take up the space of at least 3 standard upright cabs (I have a Defender and a Robotron 2084 cab as well)

My avatar is the advertising poster for the said Starwars cab .....
