On Facebook today I stumbled upon a link to an article entitled "The 20 TV-Spin offs that never caught on" and at number #14 was "The Lone Gunmen"... an X-files spin off show all about these guys:

Now, I was an X-Files fan as a kid/teen and I remember these guys appearing in quite a few episodes helping Mulder etc but really? They got their own series? LOL

I was so intrigued I actually went and watched this documentary lol:

TBH, even though it seemed like they had fun filming it I can't quite get my head around them doing a full series based around these 3 guys..yet they did!

Odd (and rather weird) fact about this series is that in the pilot they manage to stop a plane hijacked by terrorists from flying into the world trade center, just months before it actually happened

Wikipedia said:
One retrospectively relevant aspect of this pilot episode is that the airliner has been hijacked (via remote control of the plane's autopilot) and, by the end, both Byers and his father have boarded the plane to try to stop the hijacking. Through the aid of the other Gunmen, they are able to regain control of the plane and just miss crashing into the World Trade Center with the airliner. This, of course, was before the actual September 11 attacks against the World Trade Center later that year. Similar to theories posited about the events of 9/11, the episode's plot indicates that the hijacking was committed as an act of voracity by a greedy American arms manufacturer to ultimately increase its weapons sales by invoking U.S. retaliation against a scapegoated anti-American extremist dictator

Did anyone watch this when it was on? Was it a US only kind of deal?

usa only. i keep on meaning to buy the dvd of this one off series as i loved x-files.

good news xfiles has been recommisioned for new series btw with both mulder(duchonvy) and scully(anderson) back on board

''In March 2015, it was announced the series would return as a six-episode event series, with filming to begin mid-2015. Chris Carter will return as executive producer and writer, and David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and Mitch Pileggi will reprise their roles''

It wasn't USA only - I watched it when it aired. I really enjoyed it and thought they should have done a second series. I think it was on the old FX channel or Sky 1, don't think it was terrestrial

Currently working my way through the X files box set - despite the fashions and cars its aged really well

I loved the X-files initially, until some way through the 2nd series when it became a bit overly involved/complicated and actually quite boring at times with all the conspiracy stuff.

I liked the individual case approach that was more common in the first series.

That said I pretty much watched it all through to the end.

Good to hear it's coming back with original cast.

Don't remember watching the lone gunmen though.

second time round the conspiracy stuff makes more sense - I was really confused back in the day. The one off episodes are still the best though. I'll have to revisit the films as I don't remember them at all - probably a bad sign

I liked the ice parasite episode and the one with inbread killer family and the dude with stretchy arms 'tombs'

I remember the X-files episode with the inbred family.

I had just started to eat my dinner when that came on.

Had one bite and that was it! :?

Eugine Tooms was a fantastic character

I liked the Jim Rose episode too, where the Jigsaw Man ends up eating the Fiji Mermaid

Poncho - Yeah Tooms was pretty awesome (if a little scary lol!)

Andy - I'm really surprised it was shown over here, I haven't run into many people that know about it yet! Cool that you saw it when it was aired!

Edd - I really liked X-files too but not sure if I could sit through a series of this show or not. I liked these guys when we saw them appear in certain episodes but I don't think I ever thought they were that interesting to warrant their own show, arguably they probably weren't given the fact it only ran for one season.

Might still check out a few episodes though, now that I'm aware of it!
