i have a cocker spaniel age 18 months and a workng cocker though i think he may be a sprocker age 1 year
Any one got any training tips .
The probs i haveing is the youngest is loyal as **** ,if i shout he at my side in a flash just has a habbit of jumping up all time.if i leave gate open he wont go out with out my permission really loyal just giddy.
Now cocker is calm but if gates open he off. If we take himup wood he doesnt run off but wont come back close enough to be put on lead.
They keep escaping next door and when i shout little en comes straight back .then i have to slide fence up and tempt eldest back by chucking treats , learing him closer to fence so i can grab him.but now when i put a treat on gravel board he sits out of ****ing reach until i take a few steps back so he has enough time to get the treat and get out of reach before i ccan get the little bastard.

I have a working Cocker mate, black with a tiny bit of white on his chest...powerful as **** on a lead!!

Best dog you can get by a mile,if you train them up.

The best and most controversial way is to get him a electric collar (not cheap) but they do work,me and my girlfriend have him and our springer both on them,we work them at beats and shoots all year round and they do the trick 100%

Hyperactive little ****er before, never a problem since the first zap trust me they DO work, but it is hot topic of debate at the moment about them,I would suggest buying one now before they ban them and train him up asap.

I would honestly doubt there is another way of totally sorting out these types of dogs, they are naturally energetic and have serious wild animal traits, treats work for the split second they eat them, then they are off again...trust me mate we had many struggles with "obi" before the collar went on.

mate i prob will never work em and our lass will never let me put a coller on em that gives em a shock lol.
There are mental though lovely dogs .i was working next door to a kid who has a top line springer who just droppped 11 pups ,he said spingers are easy to train but cockers you got to knock **** out of lol.there only pets so wont go to extreme.
Also how old were yours when you started to train em

Dude we have two working (not very hard working, but hey) Cockers. They always run off- we live in the sticks and if the gate is left open they go rabbiting over the fields. They have done it since day one- they are fantastic dogs with amazing temperaments and so loving and faithful- there great. But.... if the gate is open they are off for the day- normally 8-12 hours at a time. Being KC pedigree dogs my fear is they will get lifted and we wont see them again

The other fear is the fact that they have worried sheep once- luckily the farmer knew who they were and didnt shoot them- but he was seriously pissed off and well within his rights to shoot them.

My advice is to maintain your boundaries and be vigilant with keeping gates closed (even say to your wife / kids its a matter of life and death the gate is closed- it will stress the importance) If you have lots of visitors have clear sign with keep the gate closed at all times.
Make sure the dog (s) are chipped, have tags with your number on and I would ring round a few places and ask them to give you a ring if they see your dogs on there own.

yards secure........for now .once we get fence up and do away with hegdes which i have covered in chicken wire ,boards and chairs oh and a pallet .looks like ****ing district nine at moment lol. Two weeks ago bitch next door was on heat which didnt help .you would have thought cocker had been injected with viagra.he was going mad .kept expecting to catch him knocking one out just to releave pressure.goona be chaos when springer gets older

We had them both from puppies mate, the Cocker we got at 16 weeks and the Springer was about 24 weeks i think,my missus would know exactly lol!

They are the best dogs to have by a mile mate...

I couldnt ever hit either dog,but zapping is different and it only takes a couple of zaps to sort them trust me!

starting to warm to idea browny .do yours still wear em .eldest is 18 months now other is about 11 months.
Where did you get yours from mate seen some on ebay for about 30 but dont want some bootleg **** that may blow dogs head of lol

Jabba - Get a couple of shooting mags son, there will be some in there,we got ours from a mail order company from the hunting magazine.

Dont be buying "some bootleg ****"  it could cause more damage than it's worth..

I would say a collar all day long mate

Jabba,

my pooch is 14 this nov and he didnt chill till he was 8 or 9, always trying to get out, in my last house he burrowed under the six foot fence as he realised he could not get over it, he shat all over the neighbours immacluate lawn which i pissed myself at but was well embarresed about.

the best thing i ever got was a plastic ball from the pet shop, it was about the size of a mini football but hard plastic, it had lots of small holes maybe the size of five pence pieces all over it, you twisted the top and put treats/biscuits in it and that kept him entertained for hours!, basically he forgot about trying to get out as he was more interested in getting some treats out of it, as long as you put plenty small bits so they fall out and some big bits so they cant but he can smell them it should do the trick. the petshop is long gone but im sure they will be available elsewhere, think it cost 3 or 4 quid and was worth every penny, even an old case ball split and stuffed with sweets would do the trick and cost next to nowt

well had a break through today.took em out with one on a body harness other just on lead. One on harness never pulled .one on lead did at first but after bouta hour calmed down but still gonna get a harness for him.on way back they both walked so good .the leads were slack and i would even say i enjoyed it .i even wanted people to be out on street to see i have finaly ,fingers crosssed, cracked the walking on lead trick.

Another little story from me weekly walks.
Took em over pit top to pond where a woman was looking at me who had a westie and by looks of it some kinds of cross breed.she was looking very jealous as she tried to get her dogs to get in water.dogs were having none of it .i think what was pissing her of was my 2 were ****ing 40 meters out swimming after ducks. Lmfao.
And i have to say i like how mother ducks always lead dogs away from ducklings
