Hi all,

Just got back from looking at a VCJ. The purpose of this outing was to check its authenticity and then make an offer. The cape looks legit to me (not that I have held a VCJ since my childhood) and the colour was good, it zipped nicely, had the cross hatch pattern on one side, fitted the jawa snuggly, right size gap at the back of the legs, large eyed jawa so far so good. The owner seemed very honest, its been in the loft since childhood, had no idea of its value etc etc...

I am 99.9999% sure this is legit and a good chance to get my hands on one of these little critters...

One problem, the COO is on the left leg as expected but my research lead me to believe it should have 'G.M.F .G.I. 1977 Hong Kong' on the left leg but the Hong Kong part was missing!!!

Is this a stay away sign, because I am more than happy with every other aspect of the figure, and more than happy with the honesty of the seller and the story behind the figure.

Any help would be appreciated :D :D

Thanks in advance

I know next to nothing about the VCJ, but the palitoy Jawa has only the GMFGI 1977 on the leg....
And shouldn't the VCJ have only the GMFGI 1977 Hong Kong COO?

Thank you Tundra, browser advisor, adobe master, 3D maestro but more importantly....

The man who gave me the confidence to go for a loose VCJ.

The figure has a bit of paint wear and minimal cloak damage, no weapon. Would £120 be a good price without low balling them?

Wow, slow down Junior, I just edited my post!!
And there is one Kenner with only the GMFGI 1977 on the leg as well...
Do not buy this one based on what I've said!!!! :P

Hmmmmm!!

Your first post seemed to hit the mark. I was hoping the missing Hong Kong was a Palitoy thing as you mentioned. Maybe he had two as a lad, the survivor has the cloak.

It just feels so right... I want to make an offer tonight or it might end up elsewhere...

I think I will have to wait.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, always encourages others to post.

You are still all the things I mentioned :D :D :D

Ask him if it's okay to take some pics of it and show them here, that would help alot, and I bet more will chime in when
they have some reference! :)
I humbly thank you for the positive comment! :P

It's the owners mother I am dealing with, the owner is away and left her to off load his toys (from the loft). I have been lucky enough to get a sneak peak. It was a bit embarrassing going round there with a check-list and a magnifying glass (I had not met them before) but we got on really well and she seemed open and honest. I would feel too cheeky going back and asking to take photos. She knows the figure is valuable, just not sure how valuable. I was open and told her they can go for a lot, but condition counts for a lot etc etc.

I am very sure on this, but the missing Hong Kong just raised a small alarm bell. Hopefully someone on here has a VCJ with the G.M.F .G.I. 1977 but no Hong Kong then I can confidently make an offer. I want to get in tonight before the interweb convinces her she can get £250+.

Thanks for the pointers (forgot that Ed was Mr Jawa).

I will sit tight for this evening, maybe get on Google...

As usual i have no valid input junior me old chum ! will keep my fimgers crossed for you mate. the vcj is one of my holy grails!!!!

Hey Chubbs, this is the website I was directed to when I first came here: http://web.ncf.ca/cn333/vcjawa.htm
It shows how the COO must be for an authentic Vinyl Caped Jawa.

Edit: #4 from this COO guide is the same as the VCJ I had graded: http://www.imperialgunneryforum.com/COO-GUIDE-h21.htm#Jawa
I seem to remember #1 being accepted as well, but I'm not sure.

Thanks Fly. I came across the first link while I was researching myself, this is what lead me to worry (I think it is a Canadian site though).

In the TIG link, image 6 (palitoy) is what I saw today.

Strangely enough its not really putting me off at the moment, I wish I spent more time examining it and less time talking about it when I was there

I still feel quite confident...

Thanks for posting the links Fly :D :D

If its legit and I get it, I will do a special CRAZYHAZY limelight on it just for you :D

Chubbs, not a lot of help, but mine has the same stamp as that Canadian website. I think the capes the most important part though. As long as the capes legit, you can probably get a loose figure with the proper COO. But maybe not, I dunno. Told you I wasn't much help
Hope it turns out good and you get a bargain.

I think the VC jawa was the first one to arrive on the shelves mate and I'm sure the No COO variations didn't arrive until the ESB cards here in the UK, and then POTF in the states, maybe ROTJ. Either way that's the wrong Jawa for the cape so If it's legit then it must have been swopped over at some point, is she selling any other Jawas?

Oi oi!

Sorry for the delay on this one

Ok, so there is a specific Jawa figure for the vinyl cape. The Jawa has (to my knowledge) a unique COO stamp. Comprising of Hong Kong etc, but the key is the location of "Hong Kong" in relation to the (c) mark.

I haven’t got any pictures to hand to show the comparison unfortunately. But, I might write a little guide on my Jawa blog that has been dormant for waaaay to long

The No COO Jawa is mainly found on POTF cards and Jedi Palitoy cards. It also has a different cloth cape (smooth fabric, unlike the earlier cloth capes that are rough)

Safe to say if the cape is legit then £120 is a great price. Check the armholes for nicks and tears, they can dramatically reduce the value of a VC Jawa. It can be tough to find a minty loose Jawa with the correct stamp to make a "complete" figure, but for the sake of £15-20 you should find one pretty easily. I may even have a couple spare in the Jawa vault. Let me know if your struggling 8)

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice.

I think I am going to go for it, the cape looks like its been on the figure for years, slight tears on the arm holes. She seems very genuine, it is possible her son has looked into this and bought a repro cape and smuggled it into the mix, but the cape looks too old.

I am shitting it now as I am going to have to limelight it on here if I get it

Wish me luck...

(all my effort from here will be kept secret in case I fall flat on my face :? )
