another palitoy vinyl caped jawa on the bay....

So you still have it then mate? You could help unravel the mystery!

Post some up close shots of the back and front of the card please?

NOoooooooooo! :(

Who to? I will have to go take a good look at the pictures you posted in the other thread.

to this guy

Im almost positive they never did come on pali card, but thats the debate :)

Well at least if we tracked the sales of these things and they are fake we can see who is churning them out !

You are the best person to ask the following question though till Jason has the time to comment:

What did the card feel like next to a real one? Anything strange about the cardstock or print?

Cardbacks are hard things to recreate, especially 30 year old card, its got a feel and sometimes a smell that you can't fake..

It felt real to me, it had a musty smell, the rips where the bubble were were too good i think, it would have been a pointless thing to do as the jawa was cheap anyway, if it was a fake it was a good one.

The colours were really good too.

Awesome! So if Jason can somewhat confirm what you have said and we can try and find out if they have different sources we might have a couple more examples that prove its not just a myth!

The cardback doesn't prove much at all really, it would have to have the bubble attached (there have been a couple of examples in the past including Jason's). I also note that the tears on Andy's cardback were probably too high up for a VC bubble (which are smaller and the top edge is lower).

The question with cardbacks with the vc bubble still attached is whether the bubble contained the VC Jawa or the cloth cape one. I recall someone had tried to fit a cloth cape in a VC bubble and it was not a good fit so who knows?

Hello,

It probably means nothing to you guys but I spoke with someone I know at CIB and they told me the VC Jawa on the Palitoy card never existed. Take from that what you will.
The only reason I even asked my mate in there was because I was toying with the idea of putting together a Jawas focus about 6 months ago until I researched the prices these cards command and decided against it.

Happy hunting.

Grant.

Grant, CIB and Tom Derby aren't really in a position to say one never existed just because one hasn't passed through their hands. AFA hadn't even seen a Palitoy 12 Back Chewbacca until I shoved one under their nose at CE.

I understand that a few knowledgeable UK guys have seen a carded example which 'looked good' and they couldn't see any signs of faking but they wouldn't stake their life on it. Anything is possible, its been done to death really. All we can say is that we cannot confirm whether or not a Palitoy VC Jawa existed as yet.

fare comment Simon

Like I said in my post (take from it what you will) At least there is hope. :D

I definitely had a vinyl caped jawa when they were originally released and I cant remember any card backs at the time WITHOUT the palitoy logo on . ( I did keep all my cardbacks for ages) but they obviously dont all make it

I actually had 2 cos I got 1 for christmas to go with the land of the jawas playset.

And no I didnt imagine it, cos I remember hating them when the cloth capes emerged.

Good points Simon its easy to get carried away when you see a Pal cardback and a vinyl Jawa in the same picture! I really hope a carded one will surface one day, it would be good to see it proved and documented much like the Toltoys Jawa in recent years :)

Resurrecting an old post as my first post on a debatable subject ! First Class.

I just felt I had something to contribute.

Reading through it seems that people talk about a vinyl cape Jawa bubble appearing on the Palitoy 12B card does this mean that cloth cape Jawas have been found with this bubble MOC ? What bubble do the MOC Palitoy Jawas have that are in peoples collections ?

I have a Palitoy Jawa with what I think is the vinyl caped bubble (thin with larger stem) It is a cloth cape inside and the history of the piece says it is the original figure..

I mention this because low and behold there is a split at the top of the bubble where the figures were removed for display. All his figures were like that. He still has a Han for sale exactly the same.

So whilst this doesn't prove anything it seems to bring more evidence that this style bubble only held a cloth Jawa. He fits in there ok.

Interestingly though it does have the plastic behind the figure.

So I guess you can't rule out a vinyl cape jawa being taken out and a cloth one replaced but to me that wouldn't make sense.

I think it lends more strength to these being cloth cape releases.

Regards

Paul

Thanks for the welcome Darth Stanley

I need to get more of that MIB up to help collectors out. Too many other things going on

Do you have to host pictures at a different site to post pics ?

Hi Paul,

I'm not sure mate,i'm not too clever with technical stuff!

I have a photobucket account & upload pictures there & then upload onto here.

Now the big question: How much is an open bubble Jawa worth if I am to go the ebay route? Pittance cos it's open or a few bucks because of the typer of bubble? Any info appreciated.

Paul
