Guys,

I just remember this thread this morning. Billy boy has a bit to say :)

"Steve these unused Palitoy cardbacks could well be some of many packaging examples that 'trickled out' in to the UK collectors market in the late 1980's?

I personally sold over fifty unused Palitoy cardbacks between 1988-'90... they were all examples that were simply 'saved' when the Palitoy factory ceased production in late 1985!

Most of the 'late release' Tri bubble RotJ 45/65 Palitoy cards originate from this last ditch attempt to claw back some additional funds!
The Woolworth stores also had virtually exclusive rights to sell off the remaining Palitoy stock in '85 too!

Most of the remaining UK manufactured Tri PotF items were exported to France and Germany! + It was even possible to purchase boxes of 64 loose/baggied figures and sealed cases of unused ESB 45bk figures! "

"I still think they're cool Lee! Even though I've seen whole boxfiles FULL of them!

The 50 or so examples I purchased (and then proceeded to sell) were all 'saved' from destruction in 1985!

None of the unused cards I saw were ESB 45A/B cards... BUT there were quite a few RotJ 45Cs and 65s!

Considering the number of 'case fresh' Pal 45 B/C cards and Dutch/German Pal 45s that 'hit the market' at the same time... I'd imagine* hundreds of these sealed boxes were 'flogged off' cheaply at the sad demise of Palitoy! *= I recently had this 'assumption' partly confirmed from an original pair of buyers too!

I've been told (from reliable sources) that the Tri 'Snowtroopers' were found loose in VAST supply at carboot sales around Leicester! Some were complete in baggies, whilst a few examples had strange MOULDED 'grey limbs'?

I doubt these were ever true 'protos', BUT were probably just 'tests' of some form in the Palitoy factory!

Hundreds of Tri PotF items were exported for sale on mainland Europe and the Tri-logo 4-Packs and 64 figure boxes were sold through various warehouses in the UK!

I can also vividly recall seeing dozens of Palitoy 45C Boba Fetts (mostly Tri 'light blue' versions) for sale at only 49-69 pence each! I'd seen the odd example of this variant on imported Meccano RotJ and Tri-logo cards, BUT I hadn't spotted that many for sale at retail on this particular cardback before?"

The same goes for some other 'Tri Variants'... like the Pal 65** 'dark brown booted' Luke Bespin, the Pal 45 'pale faced' Han Hoth and the Pal 45 'pale faced' AT-AT Commander figures etc???
confused.gif

Items just started to appear 'from out of the woodwork' that simply hadn't been seen by collectors that often before? The sheer numbers of Tri Boba Fetts were dazzling!!! = I just wish I'd bought more of them to keep at that time too!

It certainly was a great time to buy masses of the toys at 'bargain' prices!!!"

"NICE SCORE Lee!

They are 'just' unused cards... BUT I think they're still very cool!

I sold a whole batch of Pal 65s and a few Pal 45s in the late 1980's for only £5-£10 each!!!

I had two or three Biker Scout cards too John! = So keep on searching!

Spoons, this was said by Billy at the start of 2004 before he started on his scamming.

Apart from this, im finding more and more evidence which when looked upon could imply more people knew about these cards, and that maybe more were resealing them. After looking at the TT facts thread again, this line by JJ jumps out:

' there was also around 2000 carded figures that came in at the same time as Arthur bought the cards , i bought 500 carded hoth troopers on ROTJ cards and also around 700 Boba fett figures on ROTJ cards also '

Now this makes me think that there are many Fetts and Hoth troopers out there that were hurriedly sealed at the factory to get straight out for sale when the end was nigh. This is probably a good way of explaining some dodgy seals/rushed seals with poor adhesion to the cards. Ive heard many rumours abot JJ,s attitude and behaviour back in the day and Toni even made a point of saying that AB couldnt stand him-so why sell him this many carded figures???

Also, am i right in saying that JJ bought some 'TT' sealed bubbles/ cards down to FF??? If so, where is the proof that JJ hadnt knocked these up???

I have emailed Toni several times lately, and have also left him a phone message. Yes, i beleive he has done wrong but as ive said before, others were at it aswell.

Not sure we can say he wasn't scamming in 2004 - he just hadn't been outed.

Either way I'm not disputing Billy's post or what you say above but he still owes a lot of people a lot of money, and anything he came out with now wouldn't be trusted

The reason im trying to pick through all this info is to give us more knowledge about who knew what and when, plus it also gives us more about who could possibly have been assisiting Toni.

I appreciate you spending your own time doing this. The only thing I would say is the more digging you do the more murky the water becomes and the less confidence people like me have in any Palitoy MOC. Perhaps someone will get to the bottom of this one day but until then and probaly after then I'm confused. Like I said though your efforts are appreciated. Unless this TT guy comes out and say's what's what (which he wont) I don't think we will ever no for sure.

Fair comment spoons, and is on the button.

I don't think Toni would be able to come out with the truth as an admission of guilt would likely result in criminal prosecution and possible imprisonment, not to mention he would lose a lot under the new proceeds of criminal activity laws.

Unless there is a formal investigation into this we will never know the truth. It's also unlikely that an investigation would prove anything as any operations he may have had here would have likely long since stopped if he had any sense. He had already removed all suspected stock from his website and from his stall in the flea market. You would assume given the battering his name had taken that he would have got rid of any incriminating evidence by now. He will have certainly read all of the information published on forums.

What we seem to have is guys with questionable reputations, and I include jj in this, calling each other out. Ask yourself, can you honestly trust any of them. What's left when you pick up the pieces is the community, who are the ones who have been shafted, trying to decipher for itself what is real and what is fake.

There had been lots of research done already, and we have a reasonable grasp of what's fishy and why. The fact that these were known among dealers has come up and previously been discussed.

I would urge anyone who wants to make there own mind up to read the original threads. Yes, they are long and will take you hours but there is so much that has been discussed in them regarding why it is though tt cards are fishy. Read it and if you are still not sure, steer clear of the affected cards. There is plenty to collect which is not in question.

I don't really understand dredging up Billy Boy

All these old threads do is show that he was a knowledgable man and confirm the TT links

Shame he ruined his reputation for a quick buck
