An article on SWFUK

lol, weirdly interesting

Agreed

Wouldn't argue about the reasons for collecting, but too much emphasis on Star Wars - it's all about the toys :)

A lot of what I just read was 'blah blah blah star wars ...blah blah collecting.. blah blah tiefighterboy' Need to have a proper look through that.

Kirsty Tierny has quoted a load of old guff from other writers, which is what they probably teach you to do at university; “… at the time of Star Wars’ production, Hollywood was focussing ever more narrowly on blockbuster productions to marketed with countless tie-in products.” This approach, rather than doing your own research has the result of perpetuating the same old mistruths and clichés.

A similar result would be achieved if someone attempted to write about life at Tierny’s Liverpool John Moores University without visiting it or even speaking to anyone who has been there. http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/

The final paragraph has some resonance with me but it could be said of all collectors, crafters and hobbyists. In life, it is important to have a constant, a “bubble” to retreat to which is unaffected by what life throws your way.

As Kirsty Tierny says; Star Wars has “…the ability to transport people away from the complex every day to a much simpler mythic place: to a galaxy far, far away” but I don’t think that she really understands it at all.

Gobble de gook

Using words like mystical :?:

Hobbies are just that, a hobby, however SW does run deeper for some, but there is nothing mystical about it.

It's looking back at something that happened in your childhood that brings back great memories, and allows you to have the figures again, collect them, and discuss, trade, swap and chat and have some fun with like minded people.

There is no need to psychologically evaluate, reason, and dissect, bloody hell, why do things have to be over complicated.

There will always be journalists, commentators, judges and juries out there that try to pigeon hole, but the problem is they are on the outside looking in, trying to be clever and windswept and interesting, but they will never get a true handle on it, as they are not collectors.

Lets face it...as a collector, have you ever read anything about the hobby of this sort, then sat back and said to yourself " mmmm...I get why I collect now"

It's not rocket science we collect to varying degrees because......we enjoy it :D full stop
