out of interest have afa issued a statement or done anything about the toytoni scandal?

i mean after all, this is also a big embarassement on there part for grading fakes dont you think?

its bad enough having toytoni figures still in circulation but also even worse having graded ones out there?

Chad allowed a RS member to post their initial response 6 months ago on the RS toy toni thread.
That was that Toy Toni was banned from submitting to AFA and that AFA would not grade further affected figure/card combos.

He also said that they were looking at marking the Tonis they have already graded in their database with another get-out-of-jail
type disclaimer if you looked up the serial numbers for verification.

Since then AFA have said on the phone to other collectors that they will not be doing anything until the legal case has been resolved.

There is not going to be a legal case so they are using this as an excuse now not to act further and admit that they
have graded 1000s of Tonis, as it would be/is very damaging for them.

That's my take on the situation.

A lot of collectors see the toy toni disclaimer, then see the AFA grade and figure it must be good because AFA graded it, right?

AFA should be offering a free regrading/recasing service on these at the very least.

oh dear, very piss poor on AFA's part, who knows what else has been graded if that many of toni's have gotten through, scarey!!

That is piss poor by AFA. I agree with your last sentence entirely.

If it was me and I had a lot of high end TT's that AFA had graded I'd certainly be speaking to my solicitor. Surely one of the main functions of the AFA system is to remove fakes or MOC's that have been touched up/recarded etc?
I'm sure there must be a few collectors in the States who are looking at some serious financial losses as a result of this. I suspect Jason has probably seen a massive amount wiped off the value of his collection as well. I know most of us don't collect for monetary gain, but if you paid fair price for something only to find out it was fake you'd be pissed. Multiply that by the number of top end TT MOC's graded and there must be some very very pissed off out of pocket people. Given the litigious nature of the world today, especially across the pond, I'd b surprised if someone wasn't taking action against AFA.

AFA admitting that they have 1 job to do and they screwed it up? Never

I would have thought that as well :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

I would be speaking to Toni with a Bat if i had thousands worth

Forget the bat, I think you need Batman to get any justice from this situation.

Toni will keep all the money he has earned from this, only his reputation will suffer.

AFA will keep all the money they got for grading TT's, only their number of disclaimers will increase.

The best we can hope for is the knowledge of exactly what is legit and what is not, which thanks to some very hard working people we practically have.

Unless anyone is having any success taking it further with AFA or Toni.

I don't think AFA have a legal case to answer either. Read the small print on their COA:-

I wouldn't give AFA the **** off the sole of my shoe to grade anything.

The only way to hurt these people is to give them no business.

Surely then they are charging for a grading (and casing) but covering themselves in case it turns out to be false.

So you are paying them for a service, that if it turns out they have got wrong or failed to provide to a suitable standard, you have no come back? Is this not why auction houses have insurance, in case exactly such a situation arises?

"Come and let us grade your stuff, we'll even charge you extra if it's valuable, and then if it turns out we've made a mistake you can............. **** right off,"

Everyone slagging AFA (toygrader) of which I understand they have missed some big flaws. BUT how many experts out their have been informed of this situation without seeing it themselves? I mean their's a lot of collector's out their that have been sat on TT MOC's for years and now all of a sudden your blaming other parties??? Before I get loads of **** for this post I would just like to say that AFA need to pull their heads out of the sand and deal with this i.e. refunds otherwise it will cost them long term. Just saying
