I bought an X-Wing recently which looks great and is complete but the wings don't stay locked.

Does anyone know how to fix these? Is there anything that can be swapped out from a donor body or would I be better looking for a nice condition incomplete one?

Can they be wedged open or is this not recommended? They will lock but not for more than a few hours.

Thanks

Hey Carl,

I repaired mine a few years back and from memory it's a fairly common problem caused by the R2D2 head button being slightly bent on an angle which stops the catch from holding the wings open. It's a fairly easy fix if you are willing to open it up you just simply need to rotate the R2 head around 180 degree and it should fix your problem.

Happy days, sounds easy and absolutely worse case I just snaffled an incomplete one for the boy so could do a test run on that when it turns up.

Thanks Ryan

Too easy mate, here's an excellent thread on TIG showing how to disassemble an X-Wing.

Great stuff, thanks again :D

Have you sorted it? Think I have a white one with the same problem (another with no canopy). These things probably took a right beating from kids in the 80's. It's a testament to the quality of Kenner toys that any survived :)

Okay, the operation is complete.

There is some improvement but on the version I've got you don't seem to be able to remove R2, just fiddle around with the release catch.

Secondly - DO NOT TAKE ONE APART IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE ENGINE STICKER INTACT!

The guide was useful but the innards of the non electronic one are slightly different and not just the lack of elctronis.
