 Is this the start of a new wave of repro shite...

Yup certainly something to be vigil about in the future, won't be long before digitally printed repro is common place.

Here's a link to someone who's already making DP'd repro blockade runners for the Diecast Star Destroyer.

They're actually more expensive than the original pieces! What the actual F***!

Although there is one good thing;

Note - This differs from the original part in that the Suppressors have been rotated 90 degress, to more realistic position, so you should purchase 4 if you prefer this orientation.

So they will be harder to pass off as original

So far the range of colours is limited so that should help with identifying them, but that'll probably change going forward. Be interesting to see whether a repro one sinks or floats.

 this can only get worse :(

One thing with 3D printing at the moment is that it still takes a lot of cleanup once the object's been printed. I've worked with several different printers over the last 10 years and only seen one printer that prints fairly smooth as it comes out of the printer but still needs sanding and cleaning up where the support sprue's are (this is so the object doesn't collapse when being printed). I deal with these prints every day and the time and effort that goes in making one perfect object is pretty immense.

For me I think it's going to be a very long way off before something is even close to looking like a vintage item, let alone being financially worth while. There are a lot of different plastics and rubbers they print in (and even metal although it's powder based I believe), but they don't look and feel like vintage parts. I'm sure one day they'll get there but it just feels like too much effort at the moment for something that's probably not going to look great, the reproductions out there already are much more accurate and far cheaper to produce (unfortunately  ). Remember that the first link posted up of the X Wing gun is just a digital picture and not the real thing which would have a lot of lines in it when printed and would take some time to sand smooth.

It's not great for us collectors but not really much of a problem at the moment (although I wouldn't mind getting the plastic parts for my miniature Palitoy Death Star printed :D ).

Looks like Ben Mininberg (also going by the name prometheum5) can be added to the rather despicable list currently occupied by people like Darren Orme.

I would rather go without than own a repro piece of crap.

I actually think this looks great. The price is a bit high. But the idea of being able to print missing parts to ships is great.

I printed some custom stands for my Probots. With a design based on some background crates.

Constantly worrying that this is all aimed at ripping you off in some way seems very sad. Some collectors enjoy fixing up old toys.

Cheers

trust me, there's no way you'll confuse these with originals, the weight, step marks and the pliability of what is printed are too much of a difference to confuse.

Just as I wrote, it's not going to be an issue as the quality isn't even close to being like an original item.

good to see these guys mark their repros - and also make necklaces.

If all repros had a proper mark like this (and not a tiny 'R' that can be torn off a cardboard box) then there would be no problem
