In 30 to 40 years, when all of us who played with the vintage Star Wars figures as kids start dying off..... (I'm being my cheery self :D ) What do you think will happen to the prices of the vintage Star Wars figures?

Do you think they will drop massively in price due to lack of interest? Or do you think the prices will keep on going up because they are a part of history? Just a thought...... :?:

I mean, i only collect them because they were a big part of my childhood and they bring back so many good memories :D but do you think the younger generation of people who didn't have them as kids will collect them? I'm not so sure......

Not that i collect them as an investment.....like i said i collect them because of the good memories and they look great on display.

But what do you think???? Maybe whoever lives the longest will one day be able to buy a full MOC set for £100 in 2060 LOL

The Value may dip, but Star Wars is franchise that will probably be alive long after we are gone and will always have ties to the classic trilogy. After I am gone they are just gonna dump all my stuff in the hole with me.

Firstly the serious response to this thread - i whole heartedly believe that the value of the items we collect will continue to hold strong long after we are gone. Give it another 20 to 30 years and they will go from being vintage to antique. Look at the prices of things like dinky toys etc. I went to a local toy fair in Malvern a few weeks ago and was looking at things like dinkys, matchbox etc and the price that some of them go for is astronomical. But i am the same as you Chewie; i collect for the love of collecting something that was big in my childhood and something (the films) that i enjoyed through my teens and twenties and now into my thirties. Which reminds me i need to watch the films again!!!! 8)

On a less serios note - TFB, i think you have come up with a great idea of getting buried with your collection. At least this will increase the value of what i have. And if we convince loads of others to do the same then my stuff will be worth a fortune. That is if i last that long. Need to give up smoking, cut down on the booze, get to the gym a bit more etc etc etc....but hey, where is the fun in all that.

Steve :D

Difficult to tell - I agree that Star Wars as a franchise will be around for a long time, but you can't base assumptions on the success of other lines. For example just because vintage star wars toys are now worth a lot of money, doesn't mean the new ones will be worth a lot of money in 30 years.

It's got a lot to do with luck and lack of vision - generally things that are rare/expensive are so because nobody ever thought they would be, otherwise obviously people would have kept them.

I personally don't think vintage star wars will go up in value much more, especially the more common items. People know what they're worth now so the supply and demand is stable.

I think we'll have to wait and see!

Its an interesting thought about being buried with you star wars stuff.

Got me started thinking about AFA cased items and whether they would survive underground for a number of years.

In 100 years times people won't be searching for Roman artifacts but will be searching for star wars artifacts.

Will stuff even last that long?

These things weren't made to last. I know some still look like they've come straight out of the factory, but think what another 40 years might do to the bubbles. How many sealed POTF will be left?

Think of U grades. Many moc that existed 5 years ago no longer exist as a result. How many will have gone this way in 40 years?

How about fakes? Maybe by then fakes will be so good as to be almost indistinguishable from original. Perhaps by then the only way of telling will be through carbon dating?

All 3 could have an effect on price.

I was thinking that as well Gary.

In 30-40 quite possible i will be dead. I wont care. Am nearly selling everything. So i wont have to worry. There has been quite a lotof people getting out of star wars past wee while

Also, as most collectors of star wars remember the figures from childhood and the films...in 40-60 years time when our generation is gone, who would want to collect the older star wars stuff? I mean i have no interest in collecting anything but what i had as a child, it would be like me collecting trains or something. It wouldnt interest me.
I think the value will drop personally as the demand will dissapear with the current collectors, how many teenagers do you know who love vintage star wars?
There will always be die hard fans but not at the level that we are, i wouldnt delve into collecting vintage powerangers etc.
