The Fifa rankings are known for being a farce. I wouldn't take any notice TBH

Agreed totally

Yeah, Switzerland and 6th from memory!

Pure BS.

Missed the Germany game, sounds like I missed a good one. Felt really sorry for Iran, they deserved a point. Mind you their centre forward missed two great chances to out them 1 up.

Looks like we can chalk another pish decision up. That Dzeko goal was 3 yards on side, very very poor. Still not like it affected the outcome of the game and resulted in them going out.

The Ref was a Kiwi! Do they even have a football league?? They shouldnt be at the world cup. Let those sort of refs refree qualifing games

 Geez Liam that's a bit harsh mate, NZ League is called ASB and yes they play international games.

Dirty Kiwi's, how dare the dream of world cup participation :?

I have nothing against Kiwis lol. I know they play International Football as they qualified for 2010 and famously finished unbeaten. Just wasnt sure if they had a domestic league or not :)

What I am trying to get at is refrees from NZ, Tahiti, Chile, Nigeria etc shoudnt be at the biggest Football Tournament their is. That terrible decision in the Bosnia/ Nigeria game had a real effect on the result

I think FIFA should just send their best 15/20 umpiring teams to the WC. They have internationals year round every year, so they must know who is decent and who isn't. Send the best however many you need to the WC. Who gives a **** if that means 6 sets from Germany/England/Azerbaijan?

I don't actually think the league a ref comes from affects how good he is. Hugh Dallas was a solid ref, he blew in the SPL, which is barely even Football!
Also i think Lubos Michel was Slovenian. Scratch that, he was Slovakian cheers Google. He was a great ref, but i challenge anyone to name 3 teams from the Slovakian league.

In Europe the CL gives the best refs plenty of exposure to top games. I assume the Copa Liberadores in SA is the same. Pick the best refs from these and the other equivalent comps world wide and send them.

At the minute the standard of the umpiring is affecting the out come of games. Although, does anyone really think FIFA cares? Look at how long they not only stuck their heads in the sand about goal line technology, but actually BANNED countries from using it in their own domestic leagues.

I am not sure you can blame the nationality of the referee on his performance - even at top level they will make mistakes. In this current day and age there is so much technology and so many camera angles then it is much easier to spot a mistake - these guys have a split second to make a decision. We have to accept that unless we accept video refereeing then it will continue to happen

Totally agree with this, how many refereeing mistakes do we see in the premier league week in week out, it's the league with the most money in it world wide and these mistakes happen every single weekend during the season.

Like Iain says they have to make a decision based on seeing the incident in real time and at a certain angle, television now shows these incidents from ten different view points in slow motion which means everyone can see the real decision and slag the referee off. Didn't have these multiple shots in the 80s so referees appeared better but you can bet your bottom dollar they weren't.

Really enjoying this Belgium Russia game, although not many chances created just enjoy the Belgians, might adopt them for the rest of the tournament

Imo the belgians played a better game then their previous one although they only made one goal at the end. I hope they turn out starting slow and getting more powerfull along the way. Because i don't think we can compete with countries like Chili, Germany, etc.... at the level they are playing now.

Anyway, love the fact we won and who knows we become winner of group allready tonight depending On what Korea- Algeria does.

Really?? I think its a bit dull. Its needs a spark -i.e a goal to open the game up

Yeah, i was bored watching it, tho i got FA sleep last night so that didn't help! Lol

It wasn't a great match but I just find something quite likeable about the Belgians, so hoping they go far.

Algeria v Korea, this has been a stormer.

Portugal will need to win and a six goal swing will need to occur for them to go through. So basically they are out.

Ghana have the better chance and it would be typical if they eliminated the USA.. Surely the yanks and the germans will just play a draw and both progress.
