The LEGO Corner

I acutually started out trying to use the schmatics for the castle as per the half blood prince which came with a great book about the making of Harry Potter, but that only provided the footprint for the building, the problem with that was the castle is different to the one in Chamber and so on, so while i was able to get a basic footprint, if i wanted to add back areas that weren't in Halfblood then i had to get a little creative. Once above ground it is all build and see what happens and a few parts have been built and pulled down a few times as i dont like them. Actually part of the great hall will get that treatment soon. I built in lights so the fireplace inside actualy 'works' but i used the power functions to do this but want to convert to a simpler light brick now.

I have tried a hogmead before but in an open back style which would now not work with this modular style so back to the drawing board with that, but it will be next year before i get there i think and even then i am out of space (my wife is less than happy about the spare room turning into a castle).

Anyway - Thanks for the comments, glad you like it.

Well, this is a bit of a tatooine mash up with the Landspeeder and the Interceptor, both bought in the recent amazon sale. I was looking forward to the speeder but not the Interceptor so much more the figures with it. However, after building both this evening i found the landspeeder to be the duller and less rewarding of the builds and the Interceptor turned out to be a cracking build, far mor complex that the finished ship looks at a glance. the figs in both sets are great though,

Bought my first Lego set in a long time this week, Sith Nightspeeder. £12 bargain in Tesco's. Bought it coz i love the savage opress mini fig, and it was cheap.

^ let me know what the build is like, I bought one months ago but haven't opened the box, was thinking of putting it down for my boy to have in a few years.
Just placed a whopping order with pick a brick and Lego direct for what I hope is the last major parts list to complete the main hog warts castle section today, of course there is more after but I will be happy when the big building is done, actually built the first true tires around the great hall roof last night, giving me a real sense of getting close to completion :)

Ill hopefully build it tonight once the little one's with inquisitive fingers have gone to bed so ill let you know. Was thinking this week I want to get the rest of my lego out and build it all again. The only problem is displaying it, too small a house and 2 little girls who love to pick up and play!!!

Sounds good with the progress on Hogwarts, I wouldnt have a clue where to start. Do you do this sort of thing all the time or is this a one off thing??

I kinda did a lot of this with Lego as a kid, right though until i was almost 20 but I never had much Lego and the focus was always Castles, Pirates or space. I sort of drifted off for 10 years and it wasnt really until i was 30 that i got back into it and had the budget (although my wife would disagree on that part) to design and built real models. I use the LDD to do a lot of stuff, good way to try out building techneques without buying bricks or building stuff you simply couldn't afford to in the real world.
My first crack at hogwarts back in 2007 was very different (see below), it was fun but just not very acurate or challanging and always grated me a bit because i knew i could do better, hence the 2nd crack at it. Inbetween there have been a few smaller projects, the Olympic Fig picture frame a few posts back and a custom tinkerbell house and figure and some extra winter village buildings (pub and station) all below.
I am already mentally mapping out how i am going to combine the Jabba's Palace and Rancor pit with a custom wrap around and base to make the whole thing look like a complete model with cliff front and paths leading up to the main entrance etc, don't want it to get too big, but i'm already getting carried away.
To be honest i find it a cracking way to relax, nothing like focusing on building and 'engineering' problems to forget real ones :)

Can't help posting this - hit the 1 hour sale at Westfield today and came out with a fair bit (advent calanders, halloween sets and some friends stuff) but the big thing, after years of eyeing it up - The Death Star... Have to wait until the end of the week before I officially get it (birthday stuff) but so excited, 24 figs, 1000's of pieces, a least a week of building fun :)

You will love the Death Star, best Star Wars Lego set you can buy. Yes it's expensive but it's bloody impressive when finished - so much detail and its a great talking point.

My mate hates Star Wars and can't understand what I see in it, but when he saw my Death Star even he liked it!!!

Just allow yourself plenty of time to build it, took me 4 days on and off to complete and jesus was my back killing me from leaning over at an awkward angle building it.

Don't be put off by instruction book - it's huge but you quickly get into it - easy to follow.

Enjoy the build when you officially get it :)

Picked up the new skiff today and some series 8 figures.

Ttally agree about the Death Star, it really is an amazing build. The instruction manual is huge!

Enjoy building it bud.

The new desert skiff is a really good little set and for once worth the money. Can't wait for the Rancor pit though it will look great with Jabbas palace and the skiff.

Wish Lego would do some Bespin sets though - seriously lacking :(

Hey
Just finished making this stop motion film for a Lego completion and loaded to the old you tube, thought I would share, hope the link embeds the video, spot the SW characters.

I give that a thumbs up. Im going to watch it again but so far I have spotted a Stormtrooper and I think it was the Emporer.

I wish I had the patience to do stop motion filming as I love th finished result. Anymore in the works??

Nice vid. Awesome Hogwarts build dude! Keep the pics coming, great to see the progress. Got a decent bag of 80s space Lego, love tipping it out and making up another tabletop base of ships n vehicles n buildings n that. Not on the same level of complexity as yours Monkey_Roo but I get a great kick out of it, just improvising. Maybe I'll ask the Mrs for a Death Star for my 40th..? Ha, no chance!

I was going to pass on these but my daughter and wife picked one up for me and it was such fun that i had to pick up the others, which now means i need to grab the six coming out next year as well... Oh well my Christmas tree will be interesting this year at any rate.

Like you I was not going to pick any of these up, but found a shop selling 3 of them cheap at £6 each, there not bad little sets and display really well

OK - getting closer now with the Hogwarts Build. the main body of the castle is complete (minus finishing details that will be added later, although i have stated to add hanging pictures and a few bits today). There are now several lighbricks (ravenclaw tower and great hall) in place and more or less i am focusing on the outer buildings now but it will be a few weeks before i am done there, but only Slytherine, the boathouse, Owlry and Hagrids hut and mound to do, but in the mean time a partial update is in order.
