First bath in over 10 years, polished the dash and windexed the windows. You know you're running out of things to do on a resto when you feel you need to tell people you cleaned the windows

Well it's all done, on Saturday we were finally able to present My wife ( Donna ) with her surprise. What a day, it's all been pretty much a blur with having to organise a party on top of presenting the car. Had the worst headache on the day but it all went smoothly in the end, suffice to say she was a little shocked and the tears flowed and flowed.

I'e attached some pics below but I'm relying on others as I didn't get any myself so when I get some better shots of her reaction I'll put them up. Thanks for following the journey, I'd love to restore another car sometime in the future but NEVER again under the same circumstances.

BTW I'm supposed to be Teen Wolf but I'd gotten jack of the wig and beard by this point. :D

Cheers Ryan

That's great, your Missus looks delighted and stunned :) The Beetle looks the nuts - you just can't buy a present like that.

Cheers guys, it was nice having a place to share the progress so thanks to all who commented along the way. To be honest I'm almost tired of looking at it at the moment. It's been such an effort to get it done and also keep it a secret that it was beginning to get bloody draining in the end. Result was she was stoked and that's all that matters.

The party went well but there's always one who drinks too much, one of my wife's work mate made an absolute dick of himself and had to be escorted from the party before one of my neighbours flattened him. Gotta love pissed people, glad he was removed before I found out about what he'd done.

Anyway it was a great night and we have another car in our driveway, looking forward to another 40yrs of fun in a old VW.

Thanks again. Ryan

Last pics before I let this thread die. Nice sunny day so time for a quick wash before going off for a roadworthy.

Ryan, just caught up with this for the first time in months. What a job you fellas did. That's stunning. If the car had history before, it's not added another volume.

Your misses still looks stunned in that photo. Would love to see some reaction shots of youn get them through.

Great, great job. Think Blue Cougar could restore dubs full-time with those skills :)

Not sure how I've not seen this thread before, perhaps because I'm not a petrol head. All the same the work that has gone into this project along with the patience is a credit to you. Hope you enjoy your labour of love.

Thanks Pat and Scruffy, picked up her club plates today so she's now ready to be enjoyed.

Big reminder today of how differently you need to drive an old car like this in todays traffic. 40 yrs ago she would've braked with the best of them but people in modern cars brake so much later and it's easy to forget her old brake system ( although new ) is no match. We'll be keeping our distance on the roads from other cars.

Just remembered about this thread!

What a great outcome, you should be really proud of yourself BlueDog you've done a great job.

You'll soon get used to old drum brakes. I always think the good thing about old vw's is that they feel so different to drive, so as soon as you set off you automatically switch into 'old car' mode!
