Thanks fellas, it's been a challenge but an enjoyable one all the same.

Never say never AJ I know I said it sucked but at times it was actually quite relaxing.

Not 100% sure, but I have a feeling that this is actually a pretty rare model. 1969 I think was the switch over to 12v and at that time they did an version with additional trim (chrome on glovebox etc) as a limited edt. Its also at the point just before they switched over to elephant feet rear lights.
As I say I'm not 100%, but its possibly worth the additional research.
Love the Wolfsburg centre on the steering wheel too!
NB. The way you're going, I expect you'll be showing it at one of the beetle Jam type events, certainly looks the attention to detail (and elbow grease) is delivering top results :)

Thanks fellas,

I think 1965 was the first year the Beetles switched to 12v over 6v as an option and it was standard by 67, the 69 models are what's known as a one year only model meaning they were different from the previous and next year cars. They were the first to have the straight style bumper with the black stripe through the centre, but there are so many variations from country to country. In the US the 69 had a padded dash and high back seats, much prefer the look of the low backs but I'm sure it'd dish out some wicked whiplash in an accident. :D

Rear brakes, including drums, pads, cylinders, bearings and shocks

Old wheels ready for the sand blaster, my wife's choice of custom colour on her old rims :? .

Back from the sand blaster and ready for a fresh coat of paint.

Paint done, back to factory spec colours, new set of hub caps as well. Vintage bling!

Time for the fun bit, sanding down the clear coat with 1200 grit wet and dry paper and then countless hours of careful polishing with a mechanical buff.

But well worth the effort. Time to start putting her back together.

New tyres installed on rims, as well as white wall inserts for that vintage 60's look. I was a bit dubious about going for the white walls but I think it works quite nicely.

Running boards installed, parts for the beetle are plenty but it's actually quite a task sorting out the good from the **** in regards to quality. There are so many replica parts available from so many countries, I had to send back 3 different pairs of running boards until I finally received a satisfactory pair.

well that's it for now, still need a few small parts to complete the engine side of things and then she'll be right to drop off the stands and I can begin the interior starting with the roof lining but that may be a few months away as yet.

Thanks for watching.

Hey fellas, been a while so for anyone still interested here's a few new pics. Not too much to show as most of the work done recently was either engine or electrical. New bumpers fitted as well as door glass and just starting on the interior by adding in the insulation before carpet and roof lining go in. Had a few set backs with my neighbour having a cancer scare which was obviously very concerning but he's been given the all clear which was great news. On a lesser not I had to return half of the rubber seals I purchased as they were rubbish quality which was a pain in the arse, sad when you can order parts from the US for near half the price you can here in Aus and they even get delivered in 4 working days. America, kings of customer service.

8) beautiful sight, love the work Ryan.

Engine shot looks superb as well.

Are you adding any extras, like Eyelids etc? Or keeping true to its origin.

Paintwork looks spot on mate, absolutely love the whitewalls.

Fantastic motor
