In either scenario you are only 1 Falcon down.
Also, i was using a complete Falcon as a supposed worse case scenario even tho more likely people are splitting up Falcons that weren't complete anyway. Either way i'm not completely sure i understand the issue.

Late to the party, but can see breaking down a complete boxed item into its component parts for sale is undesirable. Much better to do that with an already incomplete or damaged item.

As I'm selling the falcon parts I better chime in. I've been buying job lots of vehicles since christmas. I've been using these to make up complete vehicles. I've been keeping some pieces for my own collection and then selling the rest on to cover my costs and to fund the purchase of the next job lot.

Often it's a gamble buying like this especially on eBay when you only really know what your getting until it arrives, often ships have damage not described on the individual items.

You then find yourself making up compete ships/ Playsets made up of parts from various lots. And then spending a lot if time on eBay listing and selling on the individual items. I'm sure others who have done this on this scale will agree its ****ING HARD WORK.

I've bought 8 falcons over last 6 months, only one of which was complete when I received it. When 5 of these left my hands they were complete/ near complete.

The parts I am selling are left overs. I could go on and use these to build up more complete ships but I'm sick of dealing with arseholes on eBay and thought what I have might be appreciated on forums for those looking to complete items.

I take deep offence that you judging me when we've never spoken. You've assumed these parts are all taken from one vehicle and that I'm trying to turn a profit.

I love this hobby and community we have here and would never to do anything to knowingly damage it. Giving someone the opportunity to complete there incomplete vehicle, possibly childhood vehicle is a good thing in my opinion.

I had to buy the job lots and selling these parts means I can cover my cost and use any profits to by more job lots and Continue to supply by competed vehicles.

If Someone posted a battery cover for DV Star Destroyer it would make my day. Hopefully I can make someone else's in the meantime, obviously not yours.

If the consensus if selling parts is bad form more than happy to Crawl back to eBay.

Well said ! not only have you explained yourself well,it's your stuff you can do what the **** you want with it,the fact you are offering it on here is a credit to you.Why people seem the need to express an opinion when they don't know the full facts is beyond me.

As far as I'm concerned you've done and are doing nothing wrong pal, I've got many spares from ships too, I've never dismantled a vehicle either, don't think you needed to personally explain yourself.

Here an example of a the most recent ship I've complete from 2 beater. These both had pieces missing. I made up one complete ship to go into collection and sold the husk of the other for £5 on eBay. Is that damaging the hobby???

Can I ask a question. The original point was that it would be a bad thing to break up a nice complete vehicle/playset/ship and sell it for parts. A few people have commented on this and it does seem a silly thing to do if it is complete and in nice nick etc.

But has this actually happened. It seems now that the OP may have raised an issue that doesn't exist. Has anyone any knowledge of this happening. I always assumed spares were from either incomplete ships or ones that were ****ed. This does seem to be the case from the replies.

Though looking at your photos, if thats your toolkit in the background you might want to invest in some new tools

Actually, the original point was not about selling off parts of a complete ship. It was about selling off parts either from a complete or incomplete ship. If anything it was more directed at the selling off of parts of an incomplete ship as is what the OP saw was happening and took issue.

RIght. I see that now. I thought the point being made was the stripping and selling of a complete ship, which seemed pointless unless there was something wrong with it. I should read these posts more thoroughly.

As a lover of the hobby I can say hand heart I never have and never will. I would much rather see a complete vehicle out there.

From a "business" point of view there isn't much in it. A 100% complete falcon is worth say £70 to £80. Debatable whether you could make more than its worth in parts. You'd have to list 16 or so auctions for the individual parts making the return v effort tiny

Things seam to be getting blown out of proportion. I personally have no problem with guys selling spare parts. If it wasn't for these sellers I don't think I would have a single complete item

. To be honest is there really any profit in selling a complete item or piece by piece, especially with the recent take off in prices? At the end of the day it's a case of each to their own, I personally would rather pay x-amount for single item and a couple of quid postage rather than buying a whole 'near complete' item and spending an extra £10-£15 quid to have it posted to me.

That's my fisher price tool kit I received Xmas 1980 which my 2 year son as inherited. Just hope he doesn't get any ideas about the rest of my toys.

It wasnt aimed at the forum alone. If you look at Ebay,RS etc it is a trend thats been happening for a few years now. Some people would be ok with a falcon without the pieces such as struts etc. The aesthetic value is still there to some people, and no matter who is right or wrong it is a damaging practice to me, but that is my opinion.

Maybe im an old fart for looking too far, but thats the way i see it. It wasnt meant as a personal attack on SOJ just merely a statement which i had hoped would generate polite discussion. Instead i get accused of defending the replica boxes and for having a close friend who used to U grade.

Its a worrying thing that such questions incite anger to such a degree. In the past few weeks ive seen people (new members) come to the forum looking for help with items they wish to sell etc and they just get abusive,sarcastic and negative replies. I thought this forum was here for a reason and not to turn into the new RS.

And that's what's ****ed me off. My FS thread obviously sparked this. If he had problem why didn't he speak to me first so he knew where I was coming from rather than making me feel like I have to defend myself.

Thats what I thought and as you can see...this was not the case. I will say this....as an example.....I strongly need the skull piece for my ewok battle wagon....would I prefer to buy a complete one to get it....No....should I have bought a complete on in the first place...Yes....would I feel shame by buying one from a part out..thus being cheaper for me in the long run.......No.
