Just got back from a trip to Vectis to pick up some lots I won from yesterdays auction (no Star Wars) and was given a lovely tour by John and Kathy. I'd like to thank them for their hospitality and for letting me see so much stuff, they couldn't have been nicer. You would not believe how many toys they actually deal with and the size of the operation, I was extremely impressed with everything.

I have taken a load of pics, apologies if some are a little blurred. These are displayed in the order I saw them in and I will give little snippets above each picture.

First is a box of Star Wars that I was the first to look in, even John hadn't looked in it yet. It was a 3/4 full case, with a mixture of Palitoys, Trilogos and Kenners. There were some lovely items in there including 3 or 4 Tri Yodas and two minty mint Luke Bespin's - case fresh!! :D . It was an incredible feeling to open it and peer in. John didn't know that particular box was where it was and said he would probably put the figures in the next sale.

This is a picture of all Beech's toys shop stuff. The picture really doesn't do it justice, there is too much to see! I noticed while walking past a couple more boxes of sealed Speeder bikes and more cases of figures. John is trying to work through a whole row for each sale and will easily fill another 6 or 7 auctions if not more. We could still be seeing auctions connected to the shop well into next year and maybe beyond. I think there is far more Star Wars in there than first thought.

The next lot of pictures are from the upcoming Palitoy sale at the end of the month and there is some incredible stuff to come especially for the high end Palitoy collectors. I think there are going to be a lot of collectors out there nursing broken bank balances and broken marriages!!!

First up is that box of destroyed 30 backs. I would guess about 30-40 pieces in there including 12back Jawas, the rest are 30a's I moved the pieces around to get a different view to the one you have already seen.

The next pictures show some incredible case fresh 12 backs including Chewbacca, Luke, Ben etc and some quality 30backs. Most are from the Palitoy employee but some of the 30 backs are from a different vendor. I did see a few 41 backs in there too, including WBG, HST, Imp Commander and Leia Organa, though her bubble had yellowed. Kathy said the 12 backs are the best she has handled and literally case fresh having come straight out of the case we know so much about. The original owner had opened the cases just before contacting Vectis in the vein hope he had a 30 back Boba Fett! She has recorded what was in there and will let us know once all the sales have gone through.

The following pictures show some high quality boxed vehicles/ships coming up for sale including a first issue Palitoy X-Wing which looked in fabulous condition. Within there are a few sample Kenner boxed vehicles with stickers saying they aren't the finished items and would obviously be packaged in Palitoy logos at a later date. I know they had an Imperial Troop transport like that. The diecast ships were all minty mint. The Death Star was in nice condition but considering it was case fresh it was a little bowed on the edges, but was still gorgeous.

There were a load of fascinating promotional leaflets and sales dockets, ledgers etc. Incredible detail inside adding provenance to all the items. There were also photos in one of the lot that I took the liberty of taking some pics. They show what look to be Palitoy displays from either trade fairs or shops.

The mind boggles, to think these have never been sold before.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. :D

God only knows what some of these will go for - considering what Vectis are currently pulling in !!

those die cast and boxed items, and that blaster

What a shame those 30 backs got ruined, hopefully we'll see prices come down for some of the more common carded items

Thanks for the pics

Palitoy Xwing and Darth Vader Tie Fighter top of my want list. And mint fresh

Im going to wait an age for these then they are going to sell beyond my means and I'm going to be pissssseeeddddddddd

Yes,that Palitoy X Wing is a pearler, as are the diecast items and that Han Solo blaster.

The things that really interest me though are the sales material and the photos of the trade show and shop layouts! Really fascinating stuff...

Simply stunning to see all that, thanks for posting. Maybe if I sell one of my kidneys I might be able to buy some of it. No sign of those 6 Death Stars? I'm dying to see them.

It's what everyone dreamed of happening :D I just like seeing the photos.

Reminds me of the end scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark :)

Just looked through this thread again and it's starting to sink in what is their. This is amazing, Vectis could charge me just to go in and look at everything.

Would be nice to have one of those MOC factory boxes just as they are and keep it like that. :)

That X-Wing looks stunning 8) Unused I'm sure, do u know if it is sealed? Just never seen a sealed example :?: :!:

The Palitoy documents r fantastic to see 8) 8)

Yes I think it was. It really was superb. Wouldn't be surprised to see it go for £800.

Thanks all for the nice comments. It really was like visiting a toy shop when you was a kid knowing you'd like everything but in reality you might get one piece for Christmas if you were lucky.

The stuff I have shown you is the tip of the iceberg. I remember a nice ESB Palitoy Falcon.

Some incredible Action Force stuff. The guy who designed all the figures has an original prototype for everyone made. He has given one for auction to test the market. He doesn't believe they are worth anything at all.

There are mint catalogues and price lists for every year. Some incredible ephemera featuring Boba Fett on the cover linking to a British trade fair absolutely unique stuff.

The Kenner samples were fantastic. They have every 12 back for sale apart from the Jawa. I guess he did have Jawas but as you can see from one of the lots they all got trashed by a garage leak.

The Action Man lots are incredible too.

I had my hands on that trade box of 48 Palitoy 12 backs which is coming up for sale too....just the box mind. I was amazed how small it was. They really were tightly packed in.

As for the Beech's stuff, as a collector/dealer myself (I have an extensive knowledge of all 70's 80's toys) it was just staggering and it makes me smile just thinking what's to come. What amazing times we are going through at the moment.

Well done Andy, and thanks for the insight.

Lets hope we can get hold of this Palitoy rep at some point and see if he remembers any specific details about his time at Palitoy. Maybe an interview on the podcast, and my number one question would be to ask what he knows about the Palitoy VCJ and whether any early SW cards were assembked here in the UK.

Were there any VCJs in the mix Andy? in the box with damaged cards??

Interesting times to be a Palitoy fan :)

Hey Andy that's an amazing sight to behold!

Out of interest did you notice if the 12 back Han was a small or large head?

Massive thanks for sharing :D

Ian

Andy,

on the old paperwork theres a date of '25th January....' but the year is missing-can you remember which year it was?

There were newspaper articles the guy had kept along with all sorts of files etc from his time there. He's still around and I would imagine he remembers quite a bit. The perfect person to interview. Although there are two other employees involved too. Might be worth asking Kathy now to see if they'll be interviewed.

No they were all cloth caped as far as I remember. Some of the capes looked worse for wear.

No cant remember the date. That was just one sheet from a whole ledger. I think Kathy needs to be praised here because she pushed to get all the paperwork in the sale.
