Do all vinyl capes definitely make the zip sound when you run your fingernail on the outside? Reason I ask is that I picked up a small loose collection off a guy local to me which included a Ben Kenobi and a Vader and neither of them make the zip sound on the outside but they look genuine , the guy says he has had them in his loft since his childhood so I'm sure they're original , he had no real reason to lie because he was going to throw them away before I expressed an interest, thanks

Just tested the inside and it makes the zipping sound : )

Still strange though because my original Kenobi makes the zipping noise on the outside where as this one does it on the inside , variant maybe ?

IMO there is no correct way- zip on the inside or outside. "Typical of all genuine Star Wars vinyl cape accessories, there would be a zipping sound made when you run the edge of your finger nail along the cape.
The sound could be heard either on the printed or non-printed side."

Keep in mind not all vintage capes zip- Tawian Leia, Ben & Vader Ledy .....

I'm guessing when these figures are assembled, not a lot of effort would have been put into making sure the capes where the right way round. I have owned a couple of vcjs and mine were both the wrong way round, and had been from new.

I imagine there would have been assembly line workers, big box o jawas and a big box o capes. I doubt the assembly workers would have been zip testing the vinyl to see which way round it was.

Don't assume. Is it a Taiwan Leia? Greater chance that it's fake. I'll repeat, there is NO right way round- if there was the Leia bespin capes would all be one way....

I'll check when I get home, but I suppose the cape could have been swapped anyway, is there any other way of telling other than the zip test ? It looks genuine enough, although it has more of a glossy finish compared to the Kenobi and Vader capes

Things like zip, float test etc are not reliable. They are better than nothing, but to be 100% sure you really need to compare side by side with a known legit example. Plenty of fakes these days can pass these primitive 90s tests.

Pictures of the figures, the coo and the cape would be great.

There is vader capes with no zip sound

I have never seen a kenobi no zip sound cape. Not that I would say there is no one of them.
