Yoda Heaven

I cant help but think he would be better served break the collection up! He says he is worried about some pieces being chucked out? I am not so sure there would 8)

My thoughts exactly!

A hell of a lot of modern (ie junk) in there and very few vintage MOC's.

As a matter of interest do large collections like this (with the massive price tags) ever sell, or do they always end up being broken up?
I'm not sure I could see many people with a spare 50k deciding to just buy a mass Yoda collection rather than buying the bits they want individually. Different if he had a lot of rare/top end items.

The guy who posted this stuff for sale on RS said he is selling it on behalf of a lady whose husband died recently (his yoda collection). Seems like the wife doesn't want to break it up because he put so much time and effort into putting it together. My wife would probably feel the same way about my collection.

I definitely agree it is overpriced though and I'd personally sell each piece separately.

Ah, ok. I understand her wanting to sell en masse then.

Though my original question stands. Do these large high value/asking price collections actually sell in one lot?

It's almost definite that a dealer will try to purchase this lot. Someone with a store or a big ebay vintage toy business. 90% of what i see is nearly worthless but i'm sure there are a choice few bits in there worth a bit and if you can get it cheap enough even the crap can be sold. Whoever buys it will not be wanting to spend a lot of money on it tho. Couple of grand or so. It's a huge undertaking and a massive risk.

I think someone on RS has convinced the person brokering this lot to selling it individually. I believe the 50K pricetag came from the insurance appraisal. The guy selling the lot is quickly realizing it is not worth that much money, since I believe he was taking offers. I saw the number $3000 thrown out there, which I think is much more reasonable, but I'm going off hearsay. No way he sells this lot for anywhere near 50g's.

Yeah, I would expect a buyer to make an offer for it, but again at nowhere near 50k.

I guess the initial posting was optimistic/hopeful/naive and once they realise no one is gonna pay it, the price comes down, massively.

Yes, that's much more the value of this lot to a dealer. You'd get more from a collector if one exists but i dare say one does not.
To break this lot up and sell it bit by bit would be an absolute nightmare and take weeks. Imagine photographing every single piece and then listing it, waiting for it all to sell (could be years before everything's gone) and then posting it all. It'd be like a full time job.
Think the seller has to get real sadly and rethink the lot's worth and just pass it on to someone who can get it all sold.
There is one other option of giving it all to a dealer to sell and accepting a % of the sale profits but that's unlikely given the sort of stuff in the lot. It's not exactly going to fly off the shelves so a dealer is going to be unlikely to want to make that sort of deal.
